A tascam 424 portastudio for $75 or a Mackie 12 channel mixer for $200? :?

Yeah, but I can record right to protools and having the mixer would be great to hook all my gear through. I know everyone loves the tascams on the forum I just don't know what the advantage to it is.

I'm a gear junkie so the answer is no... And yes. I'd still like to know what the advantage of the tascam is.

I didn't mean not to buy anything.. I just meant,

if you're not particularly crazy about getting either of these bits.. surely there is something that you're more excited to get.

If you have pro-tools then there is no advantage to buying a tascam since you can just record to a cheap tape recorder and track that into individual tracks in pro-tools. Unless you plan on playing multiple instruments at the same time or jamming with a few people you don't really need the mixer either. I would save the money for something else.

I like hardware... used to use a laptop but it was cumbersome. I like having the physical knobs and the faders. i use a tascam dp-02cf it was $300. its a digital 8 track, very very good

yeah man, don't get anything then. the mackie won't really enhance your sound and will be big, I said tascam because you could record to the cassette tape as an effect *when desired* but yeah, don't get anything...

pick up the Massey Tapehead plug in if you have the extra loot, actually all of the Massey plugins

http://www.masseyplugins.com/?page=tapehead

$69 well spent
