i wanna buy a laptop to go with my sp-404, mpc 2000, and my gemini decks but i have no idea which one would best fit me. I want to be able to record, edit, and even remix and post up my songs but I dont know which laptop to get or software is best compatible with the sp and mpc2000. I do know i dont want a mac because im on a $800 budget ,,,if anyone has any suggestions feel free to help me out please

vista works fine but some things dont work with vista...

like my tascam us122l. they tried making vista drivers but none of them worked

Vista is garbage which is why the started development on windows7 right after vista debuted.

i recommend getting an audio interface.. no point buying a laptop to record and using just the onboard sound.

with a reasonable interface and a cheap laptop u should be able to track in at least a few tracks at decent latency.

I agree I see macbooks on craigslist in your price range all the time. I love my mac. Newer than 3-4 years old one will come with Garageband also. Not my choice to record with but its something.

used macs go for pretty cheap... new ones are a bit pricy BUT i've never 1 problem with it. they're amazing machines. When i lost over 200 recorded songs on my p.c - it gave the price of a mac some justice.

ok thanx so im not going to get a vista. but any suggestions on what type of program to buy if i want to dj, remix, edit, and record songs all at once lets say,,with a mac or windows xp. what program should fit best with the sp-404 the old mpc 2000 and two gemini tt-02s?

I don't think DJ'ing with a pair of TT-02's will be easy, from what I heard. You're best off with a pair of TT-04's.
