yea i said it. hes got style, however.
there are some of you here that make better beats then him.

all of his best beats end waay too soon. interludes are cool but half the beats are one minute long.

Uhhh, what? Madlib's probably one of the busiest guys on the hip-hop scene. You do know that he's got a helluva a lot of aliases? Like Quasimoto, Yesterday's New Quintet, Beat Konducta, etc.
And all the projects he's done, such as Madvillain, Jaylib, Lootpack, Alkoholiks, etc.

Yeah, sure, there might be a few beats on this site that are better than some of his, but all in all I'd say that he's on a way higher level than most of us(I haven't listened to everything on this site).

im not saying he doesnt do alot of collabs or whatnot.
but look at the tracks on his cds

all of his aliases take away from his focus. its not that i dont like the sound its that im dissapointed he doesnt take it to the next level.
he gets halfway through an awesome song and then BOOM its the next track
that shit is getting annoying.

i'm tryin to find the interview where he says it but i can't, but i've seen somewhere where he says that he sees dudes tryin to make somethin out of a sample that totally ruins the beat, and that sometimes just takin a loop is all you need, and dude definitely can chop the shit out of somethin, there are plenty of beats where he crushes it, he just does different styles all the time to keep everybody on there toes, did you hear the new bk's?? i don't think most of those were totally simple beats man, he got to choppin on a bunch of those

i dont think anyone that spends practically ALL of his time in the studio lazy. he once stated b4 the he does 9 albums worth of beats every thrree days. most of which no one will ever hear.

plus he seems like he has ADD OR ADHD when it comes down to it. how can one person keep up with THAT many personalities and still be sane?

think about it. YNQ and Lord QUAIS are on opposite ends....

im not saying hes physically lazy obviously hes all over the place not to mention its his JOB. and im not arguing that he lacks skill. it has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not he cuts his samples.

he just doesn't finish his beats. plain and simple.

listen to a solo record of his . theres maybe 15 minutes of actual content besides interludes. thats just not enough.

i really do like him and his style but ill say it again: hes ultimately disappointing.

if he does 9 albums worth of stuff every three days, why cant he concentrate on finishing his songs?

Dude... that is his style. If you don't like it, then you don't like it... which is definitely a legit opinion.

He's capable of creating longer tracks, which he does when he's producing for other people, but he chooses not to on a lot of his own stuff. There are plenty of albums to cite as examples of this, but I'm gonna choose the Percee P joint, Perseverance cause that's what I've been bumpin lately. Have you heard the beats on that album...? They're nuts.

Well was it the Redbull Music Academy video where he said he gets bored in 10 minutes (I'm a bit like that too) and doesn't have the patience to finish and polish his stuff - and that's his style, and it works.

...but wasn't that 2002 when people were discussing madlib all the time

i personally disagree. if someone isint rappin over a simple beat i cant get past 2 minutes of it regardles of how amazing it is. unless you are changin up like flylo and addin new shit ever minute/couple minutes it gets boring and you got the point of the track. plus it makes me listne to the album more instead of just killin the tracks in one listen. ive listened to all the beat konductas a billion times cause i cant get bored of it cause he dont let you.

if no one is rapping over it why bother keeping it simple? there should never be one "point" to the track you should always try and push it further and further.
what if grateful dead or some jazz band stopped in the middle of the track and said "oh i think you guys get the point" and put down their instruments and walked off the stage?

I get what you're saying, but Madlib's beats don't just stop in the middle of a track do they? Just curious...what album were you listening to when you decided to make this thread?
