Dear Roland Reps...

Post by cartesia »

Before you even consider making another SP,

make sure you include 2 features that have existed for decades, but somehow not made it onto you recent machines...

1) Amplification envelopes. even if it's just an effect on the MFX that has to be resampled through, and even if it only has decay control.

2) A pitching function that is useable for the purpose of playing a melody from a sampled note.

That is all.

Honestly I think a 404mk2 would be the best thing you ever could do.. even now that the 555 is out..

Hmmmmm does anyone know what kind of processor the 404 uses?? Maybe its time we started on hijacking the OS... Would be an effort.. might take years. . but man would it be worth it!

I'd be satisfied with a better pitch shift funktion and support for cards than you can still find in local stores. And a built-in fleshlight.

yo man, flylo trick is so ridiculously easy taht you don't need it, i never really handled it until the last two weeks or so, but for just a quick copy, it doesn't matter what else is on the first two banks cause they will be there when you are done anyway, then delete the back up, shit goes so fast, just always think of it as you gotta get what you want to copy on the first two banks, and then whatever else is there doesn't matter, make the copy, move what you want, then load the back up and everything is there just as it was before, pretty much non destructive, i don't really back anything up permanently so that aspect is never a problem, i guess that could be the only problem..........oh yeah i guess you do need a card too

maybe you totally get this, but i never realized how easy and non destructive it was until the last week or two, so for anybody who has been sleepin, start usin it!

just gimme a 404 with:

1/4" I/O
midi out
real pitch shift
tap-tempo-style chopping!!
crossfade looping
larger cf support
pattern resample
606 pads ( and velocity sensitive )

one thing i'd love to see is a command to adjust the sensitivity of the start and end points. like say you've got a long sample and want to resample a small part. you know how much of a bitch it is when you get the beginning point right but have to either listen again to the whole thing or keep switching start/end on and off forever just trying to go a second or 2 in either direction. why don't we have the ability to decide that each little turn of the knob could be up to 30 seconds for a full turn, and as fine as the 1/30 of a second or whatever it already is

damn, always leaves me with just enough time to rip the bowl or bong, once for the save, then once for every reload, i guess i don't do more than 3 copies at one time though, usually only one at a time actually

-a chop function like the sp-505 beast!!
-a pitch function is always wellcome as some of you said yet, but i repeat it :we want pitch!!! and also a scale-pitch-like sp-505/yamaha su10/su200 or a "16 level" like mpc 2000xl/1000.
-2 (or 3) fx to apply like sp-606/555/mpc 1000/yamaha su700/korg esx-1
-some mixing things, like sp-808.
-internal eq, like mpc 2000xl/1000

maybe i'm involountary describing MV 8000 :D :D .....

The reason why all the above isnt in the 404, or other sp samplers is because they have to fall within the price range they want it to. If the 404 had just a couple of those features it wouldnt be a $400 sampler. I remember talking to mike acosta about all this junk.

Even if they had to raise the price, the 2 things I would pay extra for would be:

Turntable style pitching w/ Key lock

&

MIDI OUT

Thats all. I could live with everything else the way it is, workarounds and all.
