True....but the damn 555 costs so much.....i'll give it a plus for having 16 pads lol.......looks dope....but i honestly really cant choose one....im leaning on the 404, 555, 606 or the little 303 (if i can find one).....im gonna be doing at least 95% beats....the other 5% will be some expierimental live shit so im not that concerned about.....so for a good sampler for boom bap type beats (madlib, mf doom, dilla) what are u gonna say i get???

go buy an sp-303 quickly!!!! :D
main differences between sp-303/404 (i have both):
-sp-303 don't switch patterns automatically but manually-sp-404 yes.
-sp-303 don't use batteries- sp-404 yes.
-sp-303 don't have internal microphone. sp-404 yes.
-sp-303 don't save in .wav- sp-404 yes.
-sp-303 got 21 fx - sp-404 got 24 fx.
-sp-303 don't see pattern timing changing while playing- sp-404 yes
-sp-303 use smartmedia card max 64mb(maybe)- sp-404 use compact flash 1giga...

...so then why i prefer sp-303?!? because sp-303 GOT THE SOUND!! 8) and, for me, sp-303 compressor fx beats every sp-compressor fx!!

...j dilla madlib mf doom used this thingy very well...

Its All Good

Post by Acities »

Its all good guys....i got the 404 and im pretty happy with it so far...ive had it for about 1.5 days now...still a little tricky here and there....alot of people think im crazy that ive had all these mpc's and a asr in the past and now im going with this machine....im happier using this than any other sampler ive had before....its funny how people will try to cut u up for dumb reasons...this idiot saleman started cutting me up...becuase i was going to buy the 404...funny shit really....software blows...i have reason/kontakt 3 but they all blow compared to the power of a standalone sampler like the 404...SP 4 LIFE.

I am similar situation to you, I had MPC 1000 black, I sent it back and got sp 404 sx and some other hardware, I am regretting it now though, I miss it like crazy but at the time I had it I didnt take the time to really forum on it and get to know how to use it at its finest besides hip hop, I am electronic musician, I like SP 404 because it has loop mode, which the MPC 1k just has measures, they are both handy, MPC's more logical so everything is in time where else the SP's is a bit more playful being if you dont make sure your samples are all in same time signature itl fuck up your track, so Id sugest making samples on computer and importing them for maximum MPC put together capability , Once I get cash I am buying tenori on the MPC 1000 again :) good luck friend

Cheers
I make melodic music with some equipment please enjoy :]
