I need a cassette recorder, or something I can record with(not with computer!). I heard Tascam makes a ton of good ones for cheap. Can anyone help me decide on one? Something like the Tascam porta 03 ministudio, if that's a good one. I just need to be able to record. And yes, I did notice that my other thread also has three periods after the word. Thanks, guys.

Any of the Tascams are pretty good-the porta's are great and many of the older ones run on C batteries which is cool, but they are going up in price. It also depends how many ins you need. Some of the Portas go up to 6. If you just need a two track Marantz has some cool cheaper older ones that are portable as well.

My budget is under 100$.

a few months ago I found one of these at radioshack for $20 dollars. Its not multitrack and it takes regular tapes which is lower sound quality.

it just means thats how many tracks you can record onto a tape. For example on a 4 track you can use the 404 to record a drum pattern onto track one. Then rewind the tape back to the begining, select track 2 and record yourself playing a synth over your drum pattern. rewind it to the begining of the track again and select track 3 and record your vocals on top of the synth and drum pattern. and you still got a track to spare .

But I think I'll get a four track to use along with a microkorg or something.
