What's up people? I was originally using pro tools, but with my new mac, pro tools 7 isnt compatible. So I am trying to sync my 404 with garageband using midi so I can import my audio form the 404 to gb at the same tempo. I have a midi-usb cable plugged in, and the audio out of the 404 to the audio in on my comp. I read the manual and still can't get it to sync. Can someone please guide me? Thanks.

Pro tools 7 is absolutely compatible with mac but as far as garage band is concerned look into midiO. Its an audio unit plug in for garageband that lets you control the midi out signal from garage band to the sp.

i have pre 7.4....Pro Tools before 7.4 is not compatible with intel macs. I would have to buy 7.4 or higher.

I ended up just buying logic studio. I bought an apogee duet, and pro tools wont accept that as an interface, so i bought logic. Plus logic comes with ridiculous amounts of stuff for the price. I would have bought pro tools 8 if the duet was compatible.

ive done a few tracks in garageband that i had or hadnt sequenced already on the 404, but either way i had the chops all accurate to the same BPM on the 404.
the way i record into garageband from there is to put the metronome on and play each indv sample on its own track as close to the 1 as i can get it, then take off snapping and find the one you can chop the best (zoom in all the way) then put snapping back on and line it up on beat and chop the end off, copy paste, etc, you should be able to chop everything pretty perfect this way and re-essemble your track. ive found the bpms in garageband to be pretty accurate in doing it this way, but sometimes its not exactly the way you want it, sometimes i leave on "follow tempo and key" because ive found it doesnt make a big sound difference but you can get stuff in pretty much the same bpm
not as easy as midi but ive made it work for me

where is the snap option? I did what you were doing, but trashed my session because i didnt know how to not have it snap to grid.

I miss Pro Tools.

check in one of the headers on top, i cant recall speciifically which one but its near the middle, the shortcut however i do know is "apple" + g .

if you've already tried that method i can be more specific about that part, when you go to record each sample in, try it a few diff times getting it as close to the 1 as possible, this is because even when you take snapping off and you zoom in all the way, the line only moves in certain increment amounts anyway, so you might need a few options to ensure you dont cut off a fraction of the begining. once i feel i have an accurate start point i almost always cut the end off with snapping back on.
