1 or 2 decks for scratching?

One deck is fine for scratching(Gemini TT-04 or Numark TT500 are good and cheap). Two if you intend to beat-juggle.

you might wanna check out the shure m44-7 cartridges too. they stick to the vinyl more and doesnt skip as much

yeah i just need to shop around and decide which way to go. I have also been looking at the pioneer cdj range but i think they are way over priced for what they are, the manufacturers etc are totally taking advantage....

I have 2 cdj800 and a djm600....and luv em, can´t say that they´re not worth the price....and the scratching works great

i gotta agree with you now, talk about eating my words but I managed to have a play on a pair of 800mk2 and to be honest it totally converted me! so in the end i bought a pair and a djm400 mixer as a package and now it's all hooked up and i'm creating mad shit new wave with my 555 and kaossilator and other bits of shite i've got scattered about! i have since been given a technics vinyl deck for nowt too...happy daze!
Only downside is that it's burn'nt a huge hole in my pocket and my girlfriends pissed at me but in the long run it seemed like a sensible investment for a non-gear head like myself who just wants to make music.

essentially you only need one, you could just scratch over a boombox if you really want to get minial

CDJ's are over priced and pioneer did increase their prices 2 months ago. you really need a spinning platter to do all the scratch techniques. Denon DN-3500 is a good option if you do want a CDJ. But my best advice is to get a "DIRECT DRIVE" turntable that is in a price range you are comfortable with. STRAIGHT tonearms are less prone to skipping. Shure m44-7's are good needles for skip resistance too. cheaper turntables on the $200-300 range will have less torque, but you can make up for this by using slicker slipmats such as D-styles table cloths.

No Vinyl Feel

I don't have that much experience on CDJs, though, man.
