I use Live. And always will use Live. Whether I got a MPC (which I JUST ordered BOOOOM! BAPPP!) or just my mac book. and mouse. Once the '09-'10 programs drop. your 606 will eventually become obsolete. and thats realllll.

He's just envious.

He's basically right, but I agree with you that gear matters more than most people give credit for.

Without having heard his music, I very much wonder why he wants an MPC, when Live is all he's using anyways.... Buying an MPC1000 just so you've got yourself a midi controller is kinda stupid in a way. :P

I have to agree that the 606 might become obsolete, but only in a certain sense that you might not want to continue to bump into it's limits at some point in time.

Meaning you can definitely work on a 606 for years without ever even wanting a more complex machine.

It's common sense of course, but when I think of it, using a 606 in combination with software kind of proves this guy wrong in that you won't truly need something 'more high end'.

It's the beats that matter, whether made on SP-303 or MPC5000... why would people really care about that when it sounds hot?

Even the real limits on the hardware can easily be worked around using only the bare functionality of say Reaper or even the 100% free Audacity. Nothing you'd really need an expensive high-end DAW for for sure.

You know what... I totally agree with this statement... however, you should be aware that it contradicts what you say about reason in your sig... and the comment you made about the KP3 in that other thread.

There's a lot of idiots on STMB that just like to flap their lip about nothing.

if you just load presets in your not good at it,

actually creating your own patches in reason is a pain in the ass.

i dont know how it contradicts myself though. using kp3 synths takes no talent at all, you cant be good at it.
making your own samples, drums, finding good sample sources and arranging them into something unique makes you good.
you dont need any specific gear to do that just as long as you do it well and creatively.

That statement contradicts your sig... "Reason is for preset chumps". If you don't know the app well enough to know what it's capable of, you shouldn't dismiss it like that. There are a lot of "preset chumps" on all kinds of software/hardware.

What about cats who lift 4 bar loops? Would you say Primo sucks for jacking tracks like that? It's all subjective man... you gotta let people do their thing, and be less critical of how they do it imo, or you might find that criticism pointed back at you.

Welcome to the internet. Everyone has some stupid shit they're just dieing to say. He was right on one point though. It's not the tools, but the person who is using them. However, there are tools that do provide a better route from concept to completion for some.
