get a 404, it's just an improvement on the original 303 + the meory cards are more available than the smart media cards of the 303. Or save up and get the 555 when it comes out.

I'd say the 404 would be a better bet for the price. The 404 has everything the 303 has and adds alot more. The only thing I prefer on the 303 is the sound. I think its a bit warmer.

I would agree, I like the sound of the 303 more but the 404 came out a couple months after I bought my 303 and I was kinda pissed because it has a lot better features plus they are practically the same price on ebay.

the only reason i was thinking the 303 was because of the sound diff is it really that big of a diff or can you pretty much get that same type of sound using and tweaking certain effects

Yeah, it's really not that different. You actually get a cleaner sound out of the 404 because it samples at 24bit instead of 20bit, then you can add effects like lo-fi when you're sampling. I'm kinda feelin' the blue glow that pulses on tempo to the beat.

The sound is technically better on the 404. But the 303 has this cool presence to it... Only on drums really. I like the way all my other sample sound better in the 404. What would be sick is getting a 555 and a 303 and midi those suckers up...that would be ill... im thinkin about this..lol.

got my 404 today i got it for 225 with a 1 gig mem off some dude on craigslist the thing is pretty much new thought about it and the 303 just seemed to be not worth it considering the prices are about the same and i prob gonna grab the 555 and having 2 that dont run on batta didnt really make sense thanks for all the info

I'm scoring 2 sp303's, but one I have to put on layaway. Which is cool because I can get to know the 1st one before the 2nd arrives. I suppose for the price of both I could have got a 404, but I've heard good things about the sound of the 303's, and it seemed like they were both a bargain, so I'm going for it.
