Here is a tip on making strange patterns. Make a drum pattern, make three of te same drum patterns. Keep the drums on the same pads. On one, leave the pattern alone on another throw some piano sounds or something like that on the drums. on the other place some vocals or other sounds in place of the piano sounds. You have a pattern with crazy sounds since the sequencer just plays pad numbers, it does not remember what sound was on what pad. I found this out after i sequences a break and consolidated my samples and got some funky cool patterns over the drums, because i moved my piano sounds around and placed my vocal samples where the piano used to be. word .. my 404 is full of those patterns and I have no clue about the samples they've been originally made with. That's some next-level new school music.

ha ha... yeah, definitely feeling the beauty of randomness to this technique. I usually clear all the pads when I start a new project, but keep the patterns. Then when I have the pads loaded up with new samples I test out the previous patterns to see if anything sounds good. Lots of times it'll give me some cool ideas to build out further that I probably wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

no doubt... if u tend to use the same banks for drums.. bass... sample.. then most times u'll get something that sounds beat like...haahh... first time that happened to me i was like wtf.. also mesin around with the bpm can give u crazy results as well
