You need to use an mp3 encoder like LAME.

or if you have any daw program like acid pro or magix and alot of others you can load your beat into the program then render to a mp3.....

but i use linux and it might be dif... i also have an extremely easy to use program that converts audio to wav ogg mp3 that doesnt exists on other platforms

i use garage band to record into, then export songs to itunes. in itunes you can convert selection to mp3.

I also use audacity to convert wav to mp3, audacity uses the LAME encoder AFAIK.

i use winamp pro cuz i'm lame and could never get LAME to work for me on audacity. winamp costs like $20.00 though, maybe itunes can do it for free but the program is flawed.

You can just open the wav file in itunes then go to Advanced menu and drop down the "make mp3 copy" and you're done. LAME is fairly easy to install with audacity or Reaper though and then you don't have to mess with crappy ass itunes.
