Just give the buttons a 100 hand slap like E.Honda from Street Fighter 2 turbo.
I always like to see 303 and 404 videos, so if you have time you should do a comparison.

It's not the unit, it's probably your samples. If your samples are not properly chopped, they could be quantized perfectly and sound like fuck. I have NEVER had a problem getting something to quantize properly once I knew what I was doing with it.

Thanks for the video comparison Ellaguru, I think you will have better results if you use 1/4 note quantize for your snares, then switch to 1/8th note quantize for your hi-hats and then use 1/16 note quantize to do your kicks.
I did notice a huge difference in those sequences, I think it's because the 303 pads are easier to play and has less to do with the quantize.

well, after the advice from Songtalk, the things go a little better. now i make the start point a little bit forward than i made normally. like that kick and snares go a little better. but at 1/32 the things still have some disfunction in beat, i noticed...

i sold my korg es1 mkII and a boss 660 to buy this...i pay it 230 euro (292 usd)but it came without a cf card (but i can find that at 7euro...8,8usd).

well, that video was totally awesome.

there is def a difference between the two, obviously. yr 404 sounds like the quantizing on MY 404. i do the 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 technique described earlier ^^. i've learned to work with it.

however, i usually find the quantize on my sp505 to be more manageable. and i like the results more...maybe there really are differences between the quants in the boxes.

i've got a little theory about this: sp-303 and sp-505 are basically the same built 20bit machine and they go with smartmedia ,they both use one fx at time and they don't have sensible pads; we know sp-505 has a performable screen, a good autochop, a very useful pitch scale function, a 4 track system and so on. but they were built in the same year (i think), with a similar engine project. maybe they got the same quantizing feel (and pads). so to say that i'm best with sp-303 quantizing than sp-404 quantizing even with the technique exposed before....

that's actually an interesting idea. yr saying they released a scaled down and more full featured version in the same year, hoping for twice as much market?

could be. could very well be.

SP-303 is to SP-505 as SP-404 is to SP-555.
