What does everyone think about staying open to outside hardware/software? Should these be mainly SP produced beats... or exclusively SP produced beats. I could roll either way, however, keeping it exclusively SP may lead to a more cohesive sound. Although, technically... sampling a synth into the box is pretty much the same as being open to outside hardware.

yeah i reckon mainly SP, but being a sampler of course sample your other gear into it (ie synths, kaosillators, etc) as well as 'traditional' samples

i guess just try to keep to the spirit of the SP, don't go for overblown MIDI rig/DAW compositions...

id like to keep all 'beat' hardware sp, but synths, drum machines, whatever are fine plus multitrack recorders i think should be fine. i usually record my beats on an 8 track and then add more so id like to be allowed

Phemox:

I prefer a gap-less mix.
agreed i think i will mix it all as one track then split it up on export, then tag them all independently

Yup, remixes would be cool, especially remixing all battle beats into one big mix, but I'd prefer to keep it as original as possible when it comes to the beats themselves.

yeah no fancy stuff yet. beats with vocals welcome, but make sure they are recorded at good levels and mixed with the track

Digital? It's the easiest. There are websites that let you both download digitally and receive a CD by the way. Forget which and where though.

prob make it a 192 kb dl with higher bit rates available on request...

Unlikely, but if it has proper art on the CD all pro style I will consider this. [/quote]

id prob make a nice package, do it up with printed disks. i could keep it cheep, prob around 2-3 bucks for a copy depending on the final product

if possible i would like WAV files or high quality MP3's i will be mixing it in a program that requires wav, so it saves me a step and keeps quality high as possible. also if possible note me the BPM with your message, so im not tempo tapping everything. umm im liking the 2 week march 6 deadline, a week is pretty quick... altho i just want to keep the momentum going

also im thinking maybe a few recorded voice clips of our members... shout outs, poems, interludes, quotes, freestyles. mix it in let it all gel togehter...lets make this somthing interesting

already got two participants, whoop

does that mean I am allowed to take part on this project also? Just asking cause I´m not into hiphop/rap and so on and since I don´t just use my SP to make my "hits"

I've got the same question, but I am into hiphop as well, so from the perspective of music it doesn't matter that much. But... I don't have an SP anymore. If that's fine, I am definitely in.

Hahaha, yeah, I know. :P I'm trying to buy an SP-404 as FX box for my MV though, so perhaps soon I will have an SP again. I should have never sold my SP-606 actually. (SP-606 prices have gone up like crazy though ever since I've sold it for 350€ :P )

-should all tracks blend together/be gap less, or separated however i receive them?

Blend em tastefully..?

-one long track like a podcast, or seperate tracks (or just do sp podcasts as well...)

Seperate tracks so you can see who made it and shit like that.

-all beats, all vocals, or mixed

Vocals on some of em would be nice, so mixed.

-remixes? thatd be cool or a whole remix beat tape

Sounds coo, we could all submit a tune to remix or something.

-bit quality? speed of download vs quality of music

Since most of us will prolly convert it to MP3, speed is more important

-distribution?

If I make money off it, fo SHO.

-themes? although id like to keep it simple the first time around but future ones could get creative

Man I write themes for dreams, Illustrate the idea paint a picture of me doo doo doo doo doo doo.

-if i made physical copies, would anybody buy them (for made price plus shipping, im not looking to profit)/(digital would still be uploaded without physical copies in existence)

Doubt it, maybe a couple of Japanese hip hop enthusiasts. Fun fact: My brother's crew is based in Bristol, and their mixtape is sold in 3 or 4 shops in Bristol, and 1 shop in Japan, dedicated to Bristol music lol.

As soon as peeps start trippin off money, that's when things start to fall apart. How about no one gets profits, and it goes as a donation or something.

Seriously, if everyone starts asking for money, this project will fail.

i agree no money involved. but if the tape ends up getting pressed and ditributed , the money should be pooled and used towards a future project.
