Hey guys, i got 10 tracks, but i need more! deadline is march 6th, thats after the next battle round. your welcome to throw that down if you feel inclined. I want to make it about 40+ minutes.
im thinking about making an intro and have a crazy voice be like
"this is an sp forums presentatiooonnnnn" all low and creepy or something. iduno was gona fuck around for a bit. also i have an idea for a cover, a cassetted case packed full of bud. i had to transport some to a friend and i kept it in a cassette case and it looks bad ass. ill update soon once this evolves further

Ok so lets get one together. we need to get rolling we could be pumping out one a month with all the talent coming through here...
start pm'ing me or posting here. one week deadline ill take the best
(or all i get, depending...)

few things to consider..................

-should all tracks blend together/be gap less, or separated however i receive them?

-one long track like a podcast, or seperate tracks (or just do sp podcasts as well...)

-all beats, all vocals, or mixed

-remixes? thatd be cool or a whole remix beat tape

-bit quality? speed of download vs quality of music

-distribution?

-themes? although id like to keep it simple the first time around but future ones could get creative

-if i made physical copies, would anybody buy them (for made price plus shipping, im not looking to profit)/(digital would still be uploaded without physical copies in existence)

since most of you are into hiphop/rap I suppose it should be that genre..u know not all mixed up with different types of music. It should be a compilation of single trax that could possibly be mixed with one another.

I hope this one will work! I'd vote IIII to do the covers!! My idea about physical CD's is that make the music and covers (in PDF) available to all contributors so they can burn CD's and print covers. Then they are easy to produce and sell. I've sold many mixtapes and cd's of my band in the past and it's a great way to get some beer money in bars, festivals and so on...

Anyway I'm gonna try to make something for this.

Would be cool to have it made like an actual dj mix. Just a DJ with Serato mixing them together.. but yeah let's make just one tape SOMEHOW no matter how it turns out :)

I prefer a gap-less mix.

-one long track like a podcast, or seperate tracks (or just do sp podcasts as well...)

Yeah, one long juicy track, you can still separate the tracks as long as it still is a continuous flow though. If you need help with this, just let me know. Of course, ID3 tagging sort of could get nasty.

-all beats, all vocals, or mixed

Neutral on this, vocals would be nice

-remixes? thatd be cool or a whole remix beat tape

Yup, remixes would be cool, especially remixing all battle beats into one big mix, but I'd prefer to keep it as original as possible when it comes to the beats themselves.

-bit quality? speed of download vs quality of music

Mmm, I'm neutral on this, but whatever sounds good has my vote.

-distribution?

Digital? It's the easiest. There are websites that let you both download digitally and receive a CD by the way. Forget which and where though.

-themes? although id like to keep it simple the first time around but future ones could get creative

Themes are fine, no themes is fine as well, but I would advise matching beat styles properly as far as possible.

-if i made physical copies, would anybody buy them (for made price plus shipping, im not looking to profit)/(digital would still be uploaded without physical copies in existence)

Unlikely, but if it has proper art on the CD all pro style I will consider this.

thanks to whomever made this thread sticky.
Maybe this time, this great idea won't disappear :)

I'm not gonna say "I'm down guyz, I'm down, for sure, no doubt", cuz it was already said in the previous beattape-like topics...

...however I'll try to make it before the deadline :)

edit: I should've known :) Thanks Keesj!

Cool.

I have some experience working on projects with multiple people and decision making always seems to be a problem. You want to make sure everybody agrees with everything and everything is fully discussed. The problem is it takes ages and in the end often results in not doing the project.

So my suggestion is just to get the first mixtape out as fast as possible. If people really don't agree with something or have a better solution they will shout loud enough for you to hear. When the first mixtape is done you can discuss pretty easily what worked and what didn't work and the next mixtape will be even better.

Just my 2 cents :).

Love the initiative going on here. Props IIIII... fingers are crossed that this one is seen through to fruition.

Can we submit tracks from battles? or should this be a separate project?

I normally do not quote myself and it's perhaps more up to IIIII to decide, but anyone that disagrees with the deadlines suggested??

Quote:
Yeah, Wax is right, a serious deadline is needed.

So...

How about a first deadline 2 weeks from now, that way everybody gets on it right away and we'll know how many cats are down with this:

Friday 06 of March

Final deadline 4 weeks from now, that way people have plenty of time getting it all fixed up nicely:

Friday 20 of March

Ahh, also... does it have to be SP-only made music? Either way, good luck to everyone,
Peace.

cool guys. ill get in the discussion later, i gota head to work. real quick tho, in response to keesj- i had the same thing in mind. so if someone doesnt like the way the mix is coming out/ comes out, they can make their own. i mean that in a positive way, like instead of no beat tape, we get TWO beat tape. so maybe it will lead to bigger things if i screw up

Word... I think Keesj and you are definitely right about needing to bang this one out. Also think the deadlines Phemox posted above are a good idea.

What does everyone think about staying open to outside hardware/software? Should these be mainly SP produced beats... or exclusively SP produced beats. I could roll either way, however, keeping it exclusively SP may lead to a more cohesive sound. Although, technically... sampling a synth into the box is pretty much the same as being open to outside hardware. Thoughts?

I will stick to sampling old stuff only :)
Probably no synth sounds.
But of course I don't mind If anyone want to have such sounds in their beats
