$400 is way to much. You can get em on ebay right now for under $100 shipped.

What auctions are you looking at? Every one I see is pushing 300 at least

iG9 wrote:absolutely. i love the direct interaction with the box as an instument and the minimalistic beauty of the led 'screen' is very zen. i get tired of staring at led screens. i live the return to the interface model i grew up with, i.e. 7-piece led and flashing lights. i love the audio chops and i love the wild glitchy effects. but i have never been considered normal so your mileage may vary.

word, just turn it on & go... no hassles like save/load, program, files, folders & BAM crashhhhh... but that's just me...peace

I have the mpc 1000,Its a great machine but the 404 has infected its virus on me and i cant go back!!Everytime I go on the mpc IU just get frustrated and am ready to toss it!The mpc series are great but the workflow on the sp-xox cant be beat!!

So it's not just me then. When ever I've been on the MPC, especially the 1000, I've always thought "hey! aren't these things supposed to be intuitive!!?. The 500 is actually a bit better for workflow (except when it crashes) than the 1000, but nowhere near the super-fast workflow of an SP. It may be quicker to finish a whole song on an MPC (because of the sequencer) but it is nowhere near as good for jamming out ideas.
