Hey I noticed alot of you guys use tape recorders...
Im thinking of picking one up. I currently record using a cheap audio interface but it sounds awefull. Need some nice tape compression to sort my levels out haha.
Anyway it may seem a simple question, but how do you go about getting what you recorded on tape onto the computer or digital file?

i dont know if you can do this on whatever SP you got, i got the 404. but i like to record to tape and then from the tape back into the SP. Then export into the computer as a wav
Tape recorders: Chances are if you wait around long enough someone will give you one, or you'll find one on trash day sitting next to a fat screen.
Check Craigslist, Ebay, or anyone who was in their 20s in the 80s.
you can find single tape decks for mad cheap. I paid 5 bucks for a technics tape deck at the thrift store. People give those things away all the time. I wouldnt waste your money on a multi track tape deck unless its a real good deal or if you dont already own one, Its a really good learnig tool though.
I use an old Fostex xr5 - i love it to death..... and it was free. I see tape machines around my town all the time ... usually for less than 30 bucks. those tascam racks are sick! man, i would really like to get one of those.
I remember back in the 70´s that my dad had an 8 Track in his car and then in the 80´s we used thos 4 track cassette tapedecks...omg that was real oldschool like...and it was fun...used a C64 as our studio...had real cool software for studiowork....but to be honest with you, thank God for PC´s and Cubase and freinds. To do the music I produce I can´t use 4 track tapedecks.
I bet it´s pretty neato for the musicians here that were´nt involved with that stuff back in the 80´s so check it all out and when your done I´ll see you all at the computerdesk afterwards.

i used for 7 years the yamaha mt120 ( http://wildlines.net/Recording/MT120.html) i still have it, but it has everytime a little noisy out; when you apply the fx is worst. now i've got a tascam dp-01 fx (http://www.tascam.com/products/dp-01fxcd.html) , 8 track digital recoder; i don't use it really, but now that i'm more and more involved with the sp world i think i have to. i recently bought an m-audio fast track pro to record to my pc, what do you think about recording samplers to audio interface like that? could you tell me same other interface to better record samplers to the pc? i ask this because i think that this m-audio interface is more for the microphones....
I still use my mini disc recorder, that thing is the shit. I got the sony portable one, never knew they made a multi track one. I bet that thing is dope!!

I've never seen a real MD 4-tracker (uses special disks I hear), but when I was in Highschool I was obsessed with the format. I met a 70 year old man that would use MD decks to do remixes. They really weren't half bad considering the technique.
I think he would us the loop function some of the decks had and record using a L/R double tracking method? He tried to explain it to me, but he used to type like he had tremors in his hands.
