Correct term for a beatmaker?

Post by Teewok »

Is there one? Or are they "producers"... If all you do is make beats (you arent the one who masters vocals and what not)... Are you really a producer? Hmmm... My beef is that I don't like the term "producer"... I just make beats.

A producer is someone who supervises the arrangement, performance, and mixing of a recording. In reality being a producer encompasses a bit more than only making the beats.

I know what you mean. I think 'artist' generally suits us better.

Some people prefer to be called producer as it sounds professional, but I don't really care so much actually. :)

masterbeater?

naw, there's an ongoing debate about hip hop producers being called 'producers' if they are not actually doing production (as described by phemox ^^).

i actually really like the term beat-maker. or, beatsmith, which gives it a dark ages / journeyman thru master-craftsman type of feel.

Uhhmm, no it sounds more like masturbator!

Why would someone care so much about how you are called ? I mean we all make music, we are musicians, we are artists we are beatmakers some of us are DJs and some are producers. I think it is ridiculous to find a word that describes as all, lets better call our self musicians, right ? Whatever style you are into it's still considered a musical composition.

Yeah that's some wise words from "Olby The Producer" :)

(I'm not flaming - just kidding! - after all you're 1oo x more producer than I am)
