why are most hip hop sites full of bs gossip? why dont they ever showcase hip hop festivals, electronic music festivals or a music function period.

if hip hop is soooo soooo soooo diverse now why the fuck cant i find it?

shyts not right not real and should be collected into a new site called the girls of hip hop cuz gossip should be left up to the women, not these bs youtube beefs....

sorry for the minor rant but this stuff just makes me mad and ppl lose the meaning of music when they focus on beefs to sell records

You're right.
Hip hop nowadays is not what it used to be. People who used to write "proper" news at most of the hip hop oriented sites were "squeeze out of the market" by phony fuckers who by writing such gossips increased the popularity of such portals, and revenue from advertisements. That's what I feel when I compare the present appearance of our local websites with their past "looks". Shit is fucked up and it's not getting better at all.
Plus almost 99% of the beats now produced is plastic and fake. They've got no soul. I just can't stand what happened with the culture I fell in love with :(

Websites keep track of how many clicks certain posts get.
The gossipy, celeb stuff always does well and historically always has.
If you're from NY you know about "Page 6" in the NY Post.
Or magazine's like People in the grocery store isles.
Most sites are trying to get maximum visit numbers to get better advertising, so they essentially give 'the people' what they want.

Many theories have been floated as to why folks are obsessed with celebrities- the most logical explanation is most folks have a rather mundane life and peeking into what they view as an exciting life provides comfort, entertainment etc...

There are many great music blogs out there you just have to dig.
Here are a few to start with:

its a vicious cycle of having to follow the norm to "make it", even though setting up a real hip hop news website doesn't really involve having to make money, not too many have the motivation to do it for the good of somethin, and those that do it to try and get clicks gotta do whats always been done cause its what works, mass media is really ruining the creative outlet of our culture

I disagree that it's the media's fault.
There are a zillion outlets now to read about culture- it is the individual's choice where they decide to visit. Providers of shallow, gossipy content are just filling a demand. No one is forced to read posts about trivia- they choose to. And keep in mind most of the culture isn't and never was going on online- check your local house parties, open mics, underground shows etc... and if there's a dearth of that in your area.. Start Some!

i dig what all of you are sayin plus mags like waxpoetics do for me what the source did 12 years ago its just really shytty that u cant go to somethin like worldstarhiphop(gossip whores) and see some international break dance comp or somethin like that.

im inbetween the media idea. i really think it started with the right idea and then ppl like puffy gave a shine to it and that shine became the party atmosphere ten years later. not blaming it all on him but ppl ignorant to what hip hop is really about look to him for a clue then they turn to djs who are willing to accept pay outs to ignore the small cats infavor of backin the majors..

shyt if i won a million right now id pay some djs to pay all of our shyt in the top ten...fuck it.

its what they see money in at the end of the day as u said

word, i'm not saying its directly the medias fault, its the people, who are pretty heavily swayed by the media and pop culture.....how many people have given you shit for your outside the box taste in music and put on the same old hip hop (or music in general) at parties or in the car, even though for us breakin the mold isn't a problem, a majority of people really are "controlled" (in the loosest sense) by the media and just go with what is working and what they are exposed to the most

Wax Poetics is all that for sure.
A Gold Standard of Hip Hop sites as many may know is:
http://www.daveyd.com/
As far as the beefing- I find it can be entertaining at times.
I remember back (in the late 80s) before the net & rap mags it was exciting to hear about the LL Kool Me Dee beef. You had to get trickle down info from someone who knew someone from New York or whatever.
And the Jadakiss stuff going at 50 was pretty hot I thought.

In the end if you think it's wack, don't click on it cuz they'll take that as love!

i think one of the dopest befs was nas and jay. he had a line that went
rip thru freeway/shoot thru memphis like money bags/ stop in philly order cheesesteak and eat beans fast...
that was some hardcore, fuck your cru type shyt.

and yeah some beef is funny but lately everyone is beefing and no one respects each other as far as producer/emcee relations.

i knew shyt ws wild when dj's started at artist i.e dj kay slay and nas. and funk master flex as well.

i think hip hop couldve waited another 5 to ten years before it become a billion dollar market cuz now most labels are laying off cats and if u ask me what type of shyt is that!??!
