i know some cats know it well but for the beginners this works wonders!
just thought i should post a tip for some people.
so wanna know how to do it? ok...well find the sample you would like to copy. make sure you have at least one empty pad. then press resample then record. the pad that is empty will start blinking pres that pad/ record will start blinking. now press record. and you can choose any of the pads you want to copy. once your press it and wait for the sample to end, then press record after. now BAM! you have a fucking copy of that pad. also if you want you can add effects on the pad then resample it! sorry shitty tut. just made one right quick. i think i am going to start a video series.

yo Sarge, I remember when I got my 404, I really didnt know much about this "resample shit". I wasnt familiar with the manual also, but I played with the 404 a lot. Tried to do many things. I distinctly remember the night I really understood how this "resample thing" works. I was soooo proud of myself maaaan!

Is there any way to straight copy a sample from one pad to another without using the resample function? I know you can exchange one pad with another, but lets say i have a four-bar piano loop that i want to chop across four pads - is there any function on the 404 that'll allow me to just copy it across to three blank pads? I know i could resample it, just thinking about saving time. Sorry if this comes up a lot - I did rtfm, but no joy there

yes, there is

- you gotta do a backup of the sample (check manual for instructions)
- once the sample is backed up, do a File Import (once again check manual for full info)
- import the backed up sample to another pad
- voila, no degradation; a copy of your sample ready to rechop, etc

in that case though, i don't see how resampling wouldn't be easier, it takes two seconds to resample then mark and fine tune start/end, the only case i would like to be able to straight copy is when i don't wanna use the sequencer and i want two things to loop perfectly with eachother, which i never really find myself doing anyway

Resample is a gift from god lol. Is the key to layering...basically all trial and error. To those who are new with the sp def pay attention to this thread.
