question; is there an fx limiter and is applied out of the box? i too have issues of resamples not sounding like they did while i was resampling.

if there is a limiter, how do i turn it off?

check in the list of fx in the manual that's where I saw the limiter and how to turn it on/off AFAIK.

An idea is that if it isn't a real stereo effect, then it may be mixing to mono even if you resample to a new stereo sample. Mixing to mono will boost any sound that's the same level on left & right channels by 6 decibels - more than enough to clip. On top of that, you could lose some of the sound if any stereo samples you're working from have stereo that isn't "mono compatible".

Ctrl3 knob is supposed to let you set the resample level - doesn't it help?

Surprised lowering the internal process level doesn't help, but it would have to be at least 6dB lower to do any good if my idea is right ;) and it can only go down -3dB!. I've a feeling this has been covered before.
Note that the 404 doesn't remember this setting after it's switched off - it comes back at normal ( 0db) next time.

Jim Y knows his stuff, I'd say he's correct.

Wow man! Heh, these are great ideas. The whole stereo to mono thing could certainly be it! I know sometimes when you turn a stereo signal into mono there's that bad cancellation, which could very well be happening. I've been resampling to mono all the time so I'm gonna try this. Maybe I should try sampling in mono in the first place and see if that helps (and then even resampling in stereo?? Although I don't think I'm using any stereo FX like phase for example.)

Also I remember reading about lowering the internal overall levels so I should give that a try too.

Thanks
Peace

I have tried all this things, but it didn't work for me. But maybe you are lucky. :)

I'm just wondering if you could have external input or mic on when doing this - there could be a feedback loop which will be out of phase. That would make it peaky and sound funny too.
On resample, the 404 is routing its own signal internally, it doesn't need it coming back from the outputs to inputs as well! I'm not sure if the 404 doesn't protect against this by muting external input in Re-sample mode, will have to check the manual ;)

Exactly how are the users with this problem got things hooked up? I think we need to find out if anything extra gear is connected before we can nail it.

I resample with all kinds of unbalanced cables plugged in on my 303 and don't get this problem at all. Maybe the 404 internals are pretty different.

I think that you can't turn it on the mic or the external source when resampling.

Sometimes I use only the SP404 and the headphones and the problem still occurs.

That is exactly the thing that I can't get it. Why when I use an effect it only peaks when I press the resample? As resampling is an internal process it shoudn't do that.

I made the test with all the fx and this issue seems to appears when boosting low frequencies.

Sorry about my bad english.
