Some really STRANGE malfunction!

Post by whyse0ne »

so.. as most of you know my 505 is on the fritz...

now this is really strange. When I resample, the new sample is set to "phrase" obviously. But when I play the sample with a drum break of a dif BPM it doesn't attempt to time stretch to the break at all... now I was like wtf... so I did a little experimenting. I changed it from "phrase" to "single" and played it again with the same drums. And it matched the BPM? Why the fuck is this backwards when I resample?

Also... when I resample with lets say the isolator, just to take out the highs or the lows (something simple like that) the resampled samples bpm changes from the original one?? This has always confused me... is this normal?

i donno about the second question (resampling) but that first glitch is really weird, mans.

have you considered re-installing the OS? it may do nothing, but it may fix all sorts of bugs...

yo man its not really a glitch, the sampler is just a bit confused.

phrase has a mind of its own sometimes, i never really got into it.

the thing i loved about my 505 was. you can time stretch , resample , then set to drum. and bam perfect match with the tempo.. 505s are so rad. mine was in really super awfull condition when i got rid of it.

anyway i have seen some really crazy bugs with the 505.

a Diabolic death sound , like cchhhkkkchchchglgkgkl. sometimes outta nowhere. and my 505 musta been super haunted when i got it becuase it didnt have any internal sounds except for a glitch noise that almost resembled a clap. haha . everything else worked fine though .

haha the preset beats were just the glitch noise i explained ^^^^

wait - how are you stretching that sample? i understand that if it is set to 'phrase' it will stretch when the pattern is playing, but i don't think you can re-sample with a pattern playing. and if you re-sample a sound set to phrase it just sounds like a normal sample on its own (ie: without a pattern stretching it).

can you explain this little trick dope cuts?

you don't have to be playing back a pattern to get phrases sync'd to a specific bpm. you can use the 'bpm sync' button and your phrase will lock to whatever bpm you specify there even when without pushing play.

yo fauna i dont have a 505 right now so i will try to re explain to my best ability.

say your beat is 90 BPM. and you have a drum break that is 85. you want to resample the break so its truly 90 and then set it to drum. so when its a drum instead of it being 85 or 90 phrased, its 90 as drum. makes things better i think. and if you resample lofi it sounds super dope.

hope that explained it a bit better.

oh yea and this trick uses lots of programming. not suitable for live perfomance.
