dump 555 for mv?

ive been wanting to ask this and now with this thread it is a perfect time. so like most cats on here i lust for an mv-8800.(i assume im not the only one). so the ? is, is there any thing that the 555 can do that the 8800 cant. im considering selling the 555 , but for the sake of an mv. plus id still have my 404.

also is ther no rca outs on the mv-8800?

It has digital out, analog outs.. lots of outputs even without the expansion board. I don't think you'll get into trouble.. I've got my MV hooked up to an FX processor through the digital output. Easy and works great.

It doesn't have a dedicated MIC input like the 555 has though, no loop capture feature, but it can record loops with direct recording. You'll be able to overdub as well.

Ah, another thing you'll miss out on, is a D-beam. But the build in bass synth is a lot better than the 555's D-beam synth though.

I don't think there's anything you'd really miss out on, especially if you keep your 404 as FX box.

Yeah, I think it's worth it, it gives an insane amount of features, new musical possibilities and comes all in an awesome looking machine. It's a real beasty.

I'd lurk on eBay for a good deal if you're short on cash, people are still selling MV8800s at bargain prices every once in a while (think 1100$ or less).

I don't want to upgrade my sampler just my skills on budget gear, but if you want more capability and advanced editing and arranging options I don't see how you could go wrong with an MV. The editing and workflow seems very nice from the videos I've seen and you can hook it up to a monitor so you can edit in full color, unlike an mpc's tiny and poorly back lit "screen". I mean I like mpcs and all, but for the price it seems the MV gives you a lot more.

ya i understand that ive yet to even come close to tapping the full potential out of my current setup. and i am extremley new to all this. But, i sure do love it. and if im gonna be here learning the ins and outs of my hardware, spending hours doing so, why not get the equipment that i think will best suit me?
i mean the quality and creativness of the beat thats all up to me on the inside, but the mv seems to be the best platform to work it all out on.(at least it seems that way from what i gather)
any ways i got till the end of march to decide for now cuz thats when the 300 dollar promotion is over. im really just flirtin with the idea, probably more day dreamin than anything but you never know some times i get a wild hair up my ass

I totally know what you're saying. I was in exactly the same spot, I might have gotten close to the limits of the SP-606 back when I had one, but definitely not from a perspective of creativity and skills.

I'd actually get that NI Maschine if I wanted something new right now, other than that I'll wait on the Linn Drum II.
