Sometimes I apply an effect in a sample and when I press the resample button the sound changes and the peak meter starts to blink. I know I can low the level of the resample, although the sound wil not be the one I tried to resample. I also tried to low the level of the internal process but didn't work out.
So what do you do when you have this kind of problem?

I don't think that's ever happened to me. How does the sound change?

yeah man, i hate that. the peak level seems a lot more sensitive when in resample mode and you get distortion. I hope someone has a way around that.

there is a couple ways,

turn the volume down a little bit. use isolator or eq.

use mfx limiter. any combination of the 3 should help a bit.

But that I think will change the sound I want to resample and if I'm using another effect I can't use the Isolator or EQ.

Maybe the goal is use turn on the limiter.

Fortunatly this problem only appeared when I resampled more than one time.

Actually I came out here to ask about this very question, I think, so good timing. I'm having trouble resampling BASS sounds on my 404.

I can take a sample of a loop or kick drum, for example, and use isolator or EQ, etc. to get some really slammin BASS (as in the bass part of a loop or even just a kick sound). Lotsa thumpin. But when I try to resample it like that it turns out nothing like I started with. Like no bass, probly way more distortion. I've turned the recording volume down but even at 1/2 levels its still not the same (plus its super quiet, of course). And the peak light isn't even going off sometimes!

I'm listening to the sounds through the output on the back (not headphones or what-have-you), so I know the sounds getting out of the 404, which makes me think its something to do with its INTERNAL re-inputting (resampling) part.

If anyone knows what might be up I'd much appreciate it. It just occurred to me that I may accidentally have the FX-limiter on so I'll check that when I get home, but I'm pretty sure that's not it.

I use my 404 in concert (or right next to) my computer, so there is something I've been meaning to try: 1) Record the good, BASSEY output of the 404 into the computer; 2)play that sound back from my computer into my 404 and sample it (externally). That would be annoying but if it works I'll be sure to mention it! (Also, I know there's little loop pedals for guitars and all so maybe something like that would be a non-computer way or doing this.)

Sorry for the long-winded question, but any help is much appreciated.
Peace.

Recording to a computer and back into your sp will work, but it's kinda a hassle like you already stated. If the fx limiter is on than that would be squashing your sounds so they don't clip, but if that was the case the signal being resampled shouldn't be clipping. I tired right now and don't have this problem with resample on my 303 so I'm a little stumped at the moment, but I'll think about it more later today. Late night beat making turns my brain to mush

I tried to use the mfx limiter, but I didn't get good results.

I would just lower the levels in the box so it doesn't clip when you resample and then boost the input signal level when you record into your computer so the end result is more suitable for distribution to the people. Since the 404 records 24bit depth you should be able to resample your samples lower and then mix the levels well in the box to avoid clipping and maintain a cool amount of headroom when raise the levels in your recording device. But that's all I got really

Now if I could just figure out how to mix my own music so it doesn't sound so craptastic.
I really need monitors instead of these $20 sony headphones. Mixing on these is like playing russian roulette with 5 bullets rather than 1, only 1/6th of the time I don't kill my beats.

I know, but I'm pretty poor. Plus those Bose will sound good but color the signal too much for me to warrant spending the money, on top of the fact that getting the most out of monitors requires a room that has been acoustically treated. I'll have to just get some really nice headphones and start to actually use the recording software I have for more than recording raw 2-tracks from my SP-303.
