hi
could someone try to explain me what this pad stand for? i read that with this you can switch pattern immediatly but at page 8 in the manual i read "yuo can use it to play the sample of the pad you pressed most recently. this could be useful to play a drum roll by hand"...
...i know that sp-404 don't have roll function, but could anyone explain this technique?

thanx

I guess it's used to be able to quickly hit the same sound again and again. It's easier if you can use both your hands on two buttons rather than one.

I think I haven't used that button at all :D

Word, I've always wondered what people use the sub pad for on their 404's.
I think I'll go to the Guitar Center and take the write protect off a floor model Sp-404 and get busy with the sub like sp-ninja before the overseers walk by.

I pretty often use my SUB pad.
I prefer to have my samples in gate mode (on).
When I hit a pad with such sample, I hold my finger on it for a sec and simultaneously press the SUB button while holding all the time my finger on the sample pad.
The effect is similar to pressing a pad with gate mode (off) and loop mode (off), two times in a row. There is no break while the sample playbacks.
Quite useful sometimes :P

I use de subpad just in the pattern mode, I have forgot about this drum roll thing. After read the post of blind fold I did that:
1. loaded the pad 9 with a snare and the pads 10 until 12 with differents toms
2. made rolls like 9/sub/9/sub/10/sub/10/sub/11/sub/11sub/12/sub/12sub
I can say it works and its better than try to do rolls using just a pad.
I don't know if it's possible to do this, but if you can set in na midi control a minor velocity for the subpad it would be perfect to do more realistic rolls.

definitely for double hits (and rolls, although i don't really do rolls like that, sounds more like just a bpm looper of a snair hit), like double hits of a bass drum (bah-dum) helps with timing and everything, and then i like using it to pattern jump, i won't bother explainin when to use it, but just keep it in mind, it allows you to jump between patterns at any point, and this can be real useful, especially if your one to be gettin real busy on the sp

Thanks Sarge, but there are much more talented cats hanging around here than myself. The 2 Dope Rhythm you made for instance blew my mind and made realize how much better I should be for how long I've been trying to make beats. I'm 25 and you're 17 so I'd say you're more talented and a quicker study. Keep up the good work. :D
