Just got a 404...have a few q's

Post by Eloheim »

Hey I'm really enjoyin my new 404, but I have a couple questions.

The first being as to the various FX and their parameters. Does anyone know of a "standardized" listing for these, as far as the names of the FX & parameters go? For example, the Compressor has "sustain;" is this really "ratio?" Also it's throwing me off a little figuring out which way is on/off for various parameters (like I turn the knob to the left to turn an effect off and instead it turns it up). I know I can figure out most of this without too much trouble but a pre-written diagram or table with names of the FX and parameters and which way is more/less on the knobs would be fantastic. (And of course I've read the manual, that's what I'm referring to above.)

Second of all, as to the lo-fi sampling mode: When I resample something that was originally recorded in lo-fi, IN LO-FI (again, if you will), it seems like the sample get degraded even MORE? Right? Like in a computer audio editor, if you're going to resample a 16-bit audio clip, you want to leave it set on 16-bit. But here on the 404 it seems like I should resample a "lo-fi"-recorded sample into "hi-fi" mode, too keep the same quality. I ask this because I know lo-fi samples take up less space, and I don't wanna loose this space-saving quality by simply resampling.

Finally, can I trigger my 404's sample's from multiple banks at once if I'm using an external midi trigger? Or do all the sample's have to be loaded up into the "current" bank to be played? (Once again, this one wouldn't be too hard to figure out but then I'd have to hook up my 404 to midi and all that...)

[Okay one last quick one: anyone here ever use the "adjust the Sp-404's internal volume level" deal? Just noticed it and made me wonder.]

Thanks for the time of anyone who answers,
Peace

the fx parameters you are looking for are in the manual, a whole 2 pages with what each knob does, don't know if it gets much more detailed than that, unless your looking for people to give out there secrets of what they use to achieve something

if you sample somthin in lofi, its gonna go through some sort of bit crusher type algorithm again, so if you keep resampling somethin with lofi on everytime, its gonna get worse and worse (or better and better to some of us).......i'm pretty sure about this, but maybe somebody will say otherwise\

and you should be able to trigger stuff from multiple pads with a midi trigger, as long as it has enough keys to cover multiple banks, i think it starts a B below middle c from bank a pad 1 and goes up from there, it explains how its worked out towards the back of the manual in the MIDI section, check it out
