I've recently got my 404 and havnt really started making any serious beats yet. I'm 15 but very interested into making music. I'm just wondering if most people started out as young as me or what?

Yeah i was about your age. That was back in like 1996, all I had was a keyboard and a 4 track. Best advice I can give you is educate yourself. Don't be lazy, if you expect everyone else to just tell you what/how to do anything you may as well not even start. If you don't love it, don't bother.

i wish i had a sampler at that age. I used to spend hours on my mixer combining sounds from different records and messing with the pause button on my cassete recorder to make loops. I would have made mad beats if i had a sampler when i was younger.

Yeah man i feel you. Sometimes I do get down on myself though at how unmotivated I am at times. I guess your right and the first big step I should take in producing is to educate myself.

i started when i was 19, august of two years ago. once i found out that affordable samplers like the 404 existed, it was all over. i'll never forget that first week of beat making, drove across the country with my cousin and spent all my time just learning the box.

I started in about 1984 or 85...bought me a Boss Dr. rhythm (mini drummaschine) and a used Korg poly 800.

I was a big fan of Depeche Mode & kraftwerk at that time.

Since the techno era started here in Germany in the early 90´s, I started the Deejaying which was alota fun for about 15 years...now I´m using a MC-505 and a SP-404 and still having alota fun producing at the age of almost 44...so rock on :D

I started using Reason to make music when I was 19 I think. That's four years ago now. Got my SP 404 not earlier than last may, I was 22 then.

I did music before that, though. Been playing bass guitar and guitar since age 18. I also wish I had started to pick up instruments ealier but I couldn't afford it and thought it was too hard to learn and that I would soon lose interest in it.

I wrote my first music when I was about 11, using those old MS-DOS midi tracker programs. I used to be into that kind of software a lot, I did a few demo scene tracks as well. Basically, until I bought a new PC and the newer Windows stopped supporting those old DOS programs.

I then made a lot of guitar music, basically I'm still doing that. But nowadays I'm more into hardware based producing, and all kinds of genres really. Movie scores, hiphop, trance ... I try a lot of different stuff. I even tried a little bit of reggae and worked out well.

I've still got a lot to learn though.

I got my first Portastudio in '95, but i'd been writing things for a few years before that. I come from a guitar background and was making terrible Industrial type music with my guitar, a drum machine and a friend that screamed into a mic alot. Ah, good times. :)

i started doin electronic music at age 19 in the end of 2000

before i played guitar and listened to a lotta glam punk bands.

i started from bram bos hammerhead, then moonfish, then tuareg 1.6

in 2004 i switched to BUZZ tracker
and after - in the end of summer of 2004i switched to reson/renoise!

nowadays i kinda returned to my rock roots and play in a live band - some kinda fast punky glam rock!

As far as I remember I got a potastudio in 1994 when I was 16, but I have been playing guitar since I was eleven. But I spent more time playing in rock bands than producing my tracks.

I started producing music when I was 24 and had been djing for 3 years before that. Djing definitely got me into producing tracks. After all, a dj IS producing, hopefully, with two turntables. Big ups to all the young bucks who are doing their thing. Keep at it. You'll be killin it by the time you're 20.
