Triggering patterns with the 404

Post by Nay Durden »

Hey guys

I've bought the 404 a month ago and for some reasons i didn't receive the manual, still i managed to use it properly but i had an idea the other day and i can't seem to find a way to realize it.

So the thing is i have Sequences already recorded and i made several patterns, now all i need is to find a way to synchronize a click track for my drummer.

I read on the FAQ section that you could trigger any separate pads with an external midi signal, but can you do the same with pattern (i.e is there any midi channel assigned for the patterns).

The setting i'm thinking about is

DTXpress 2 metronome ==> Phone out ===> Drummer's headphones
I
I
v
Midi Out ==> Midi In 404 ==>SP 404 ===> To desk

So what i want exactly is to have a way to start the Click track and the Pattern at the same time for the drummer to have a click synchonize to the patterns, and with preprogrammed click with different tempos, control different preprogrammed patterns.

i.e : First song got sequences, these sequences are all recorded on separate pads, and these pads are all part of my pattern A1 at 150bpm
The drummer start his click track on his DTXpress 2 at 160 bpm.
The SP 404 synchronizes to 160bpm and starts pattern A1. in my A1 pattern, i have used an empty pad for the two first bars so the drummer knows he's got two bars of click before the song actually starts.

Is that possible in any way, or anything close to this?

I hope i was clear enough for you to help me :)

Please answer, i REALLLY need to know soon :(

Nay

That maybe sound dumb but i can't seem to get it right :(

Ok i found a way to make it work so that's really cool

the only problem left is that i use a DTXpress II module as the click track to synchronize the SP404 but it's not that good because you can't send Midi On/OFF messages without playing "songs" on the DTXpress (which are synchronized to the click) so that means my drummer has a click track, the patterns snchronized but he also hears the DTXpress Songs and that's not cool at all so i was wondering about using another click module

Does anybody know or use a click that could fit, i just need a simple click (with of course all the features of the usual click) that also sends Midi On Off messages

Thanks already
