SP-555? is it worth it?

Post by THEWIZ »

I've worked with an sp-404 a bit and im looking to buying my own. Im wondering is it is worth the money for the 555 and what would be the better choice for what i am going to be doing. im going to be sampling vinyl with my turntable and also sampling from my computer. Maybe run my midi keyboard in as well? im still an SP noob atm, but i assure you ill be killin it soon enough.
any information is appreciated

It's kinda like when you need to buy a computer- they say 'buy the best ______ that you can afford'. If you can afford it- cop it

Find a Guitar Center nearby and go bang on them.

404 can be battery powered- 555 has more features.

Just watching that new Animal Collective video makes me want 2 555s!

Or wait for the "Beat Thang"

the 555 is worth the $ and has alot of cool features the 404 doesnt. little thing like pattern copy and loop capture can make a big difference. its also got phantom power for condensor mics. the usb is awsome because you can stream music or samples or whatever directly to and from your computer. so if your looking to record onto your computer or rip samples from it the 555 is real handy. and with the usb its pretty much like an audio interface for recording anything like other instuments to your computer. there is other cool stuff im not mentioning.
the only thing i think the 404 has going over the 555 is the portability. that sure is handy. some sp heads on here might argue that is has a couple of better effects also. so i suggest the 555. 8)

Ok, not to beat a dead horse (that's an odd saying...) but this guy's new so...

The vinyl sim effect on the 404 has a better compressor than the one on the 555.

Plus battery power.

Just sayin'...

It's all love man, as in I'd love a 555 to keep my 404 company. =)

I switched from the cred-boosting 303 to the 555 and never looked back.
