Battle 39 - Strawberry Fields

Post by ghost bazz »

Not an obscure, DITC-type track by any means, but it has a lot of good instrumentation... lots of possibilities here. I know people can generally be pretty divided when it comes to the Beatles, so hopefully no one is turned off by the selection.

All my vinyl is in boxes, so I had to grab an mp3 off the internet. The break is Art Blakey. 8)

Who doesn't like the Beatles? Least divisive group ever... =P Anyway I'm all over this one.

i got a question of the most basic order. if i were to use the 505 (rather than the 404) in a battle, what am i NOT allowed to use?

for ex: seems obvious that i can't use the pitch functions.

but there's no 'mark' button, so i'd have to use the wav edit screen....there's also the sequencer....

i don't wanna use any unfair advantages, but in some cases, there aren't 404-style options.

don't know if this has already been discussed (difs between battling with a 303, 404 versus 505, 606, etc.), but don't wanna overstep.

thots?

If I got the rules right you are allowed to use the pitch effect if it's from your SP. Don't really know about the other ones, though.

To build on what blindfold said, you can use any features of your SP, just no additional outside hardware/software. Since they all have unique strengths and weaknesses, it comes out pretty even.

Yeah, they even out more or less, although it probably takes the most skills to make a great beat on a 303 or 404. (Look at it from the bright side tho, if you master the 404, you can pretty much master all others. With eyes closed. ;) ).

The way the rules were layed out originally was if any of the SPs had a working pitch shift / time stretch it was disallowed. the pitch effect on the 404 is ok because it mangles the sound. At least that was my understanding.

It's in rule #1. That being said the Arena hasn't always stuck to the posted rules, so it's prolly up for debate. But since you asked and all...

Ahhhh... didn't know that. Sounds good tho. I'm all for preserving the tradition... let's stick with the OG rules. Thanks for the 411 iG9.

axiom, amigo, I'm afraid you misunderheard... Although not entirely accurate I was referring to myself. I was the original Arena mod, I organized it and compiled the rules and such. I handed the reigns to juxt when my life got hectic as a temporary measure but life never calmed down and now my little idea is all grown up. It was self deprecation I assure you, and not meant in any way at the current management. :D
