yeah, exactly. it worx best with digital recording, cuz you can set up the wavs you wanna record, then just blow thru them.

and yeah, heh. i like messing with the chop sensitivity too. 7 is nice, as is 3. but sometimes i like the results from throwing it up to 10.

I think that the chop function is critical when using the 505 and I usually use 7 and get great results and it's incredible to create drum kits then assign those a bank.
If I want to manually chop,I use my 404 and Sampletrak,but prefer the latter....

No tips, but yesterday I discovered Chromatic PS and it changed my life lol.

Before I had it in my mind as shit-sounding, but you can make some really nice chords, man, put the 3rd knob all the way to the right.

You just gotta make it so your hearing 100% the effect, and the sample you're doing it to should only have single notes, otherwise it'll just be a mess.

little tip (that you've pro'lly awready figgered out):

getting around 'processing time' for sampling. rather than sampling each sound to each pad (and waiting through processing time for each), do the following:

sample ALL sounds yr after, on to one pad, then just use the "chop" function to divide the sounds up across several pads.

you sometimes have to mess with how finely chopped you want it, but generally speaking, you'll get each unique sound divided out inside the 2 chop banks. you can then just save it, and use the clip board to pull these samples out.

this en masse then chop technique ^^ is way faster than sampling to each pad.

Resampling all the individual hits onto pad 13 with desired effect and about 1 sec silence between each hit. Then resampling that onto 14-16 with additional effects to find what sounds best, then chopping it and clipboarding over the original samples on 1-12.

... in short, nice tip!

That's exactly the same strategy I'm often using on my MV, works great and still keeps the work flow going.

Just picked up on something.

Quick cycling through 'fx assign' settings across pad banks.
When you are in the fx assign screen you can use the wheel to cycle through pad banks to get a real quick look at where you are applying the effect. It won't change the pad bank that you're in, as far as what is active on the pads tho, which is nice.

found a nice little way to apply an effect to pattern 1, then switch effect when the sequencer shifts to pattern 2.

1) pick yr pads to assign both pattern 1's and pattern 2's effects (note: if you have pattern 2 pads playing while pattern 1 is playing you'll get FX 1 on them obviously)

2) pick yr effect for pattern 1 (let's say FX 1 is delay)

3) play pattern one, shift the wheel so pattern 2 is synched up next

4) turn yr delay knobs like normal, mangle yr sounds, you know...have fun

5) hit fx select, scroll wheel to highlight yr second effect (let's say FX 2 is flange) while sequence 1 plays along. do not hit enter on FX 2.

6) continue mangling pattern 1 with fx 1 (ie: turn knobs) but stay in effect select screen

7) as pattern 1 nears completion get ready to hit enter, and press it as the pattern switches.

you are now in pattern 2 with FX 2 on the pads.

this ^^ may not seem like a big deal, but the point of this is that you roll over the upcoming effect while still using the last one (ie: turning knobs etc) even if pattern 1 loops a bunch of times, and it doesn't kick you outta the screen.

this tip lets you change fx in time with your sequencer, arrange pieces with different effects for different parts of a song, and its faster than trying to hit 'fx select' and scrolling to the right place just at the end of sequence 1.

One thing I found for quickly pulling samples off of the chop bank (because you can't record patterns using samples directly on chop 1 or 2) is you backup the chop bank onto your memory card, and then load it back onto any bank on the sampler...

That way you can quickly transfer the entire chop bank in one go.

I don't know if you want to call this a trick, but you can have 3 stereo samples and 4 mono samples on at the same time. Just can't squeeze the 8th polyphony.
