MC-505 vs. SP-404

1st of all I´d like to say "Hi" (darn no waving smiley here) =) to all you users & admins out there/here

My 1st and probably not my last question is how do I hook an MC-505 up to an SP-404 so that I can use the tunes from the MC & let´s say.. the drums from the SP

I have both owners manuals ...I put the MC to "EXT" on part1 and I did lookup on the SP ...have tried both AuT and TmP...nothing really worked exept that I could start the SP from the MC.
Beats me for the moment ....will try it out again tomorrow after work. maybe in the meantime someone is out here/there

that can tell me about it.

keep the tempo on the 404 and 505 the same.

sample the 505 with the 404.

no midi nececeary, this actually just complicates things.

set the sampler to auto record at level 1 , to keep the tempos insynch. was this helpful ? peace

i agree with you but at the same time be cautious using that auto start recording function.... sometimes its the bomb and sometimes it actually will shave an important fraction of a second from your sample

the MC-505 is a Groovebox and not a sampler. The MC-909 has a Sampler built in

yeah, he is saying that you should use the 404 to sample the sounds out of the 505, i think you are reading it wrong

If you want the 404 to work like a midi sample player then check the midi channels match. Default on the 404 is Channel 1. The last 4 card banks on the 404 are actually one higher so default to channel 2. Further, the midi notes in the sequence need to match the 404 pad/bank with your samples. See the chart in the 404 manual. You cannot transpose the 404 that I can see, so you may have to do that on the 505 or move the 404 samples to different pad/banks. Watch out for one midi note that just turns the 404 external input on & off - it doesn't play a sample pad.

1st of all thx 4 ur help so far.
I just talked to Roland Customer Support and I think I got it. Each of the 12 Pads can be played on the Groovebox keys...it all starts with the lowest octave ... key 1 of the the 505 is pad 1 of the 404 and so on. Each Pad has to be MIDI assigned to the 505.
I´ll be trying that out today after work and I´ll let you know if it works incase anyone here wants to know about it.
