I don't have any experience with the a br -600 but they look real nice, how do you like it so far. Have you checked youtube for vids of people using the br-600 to multi-track?

yep. i usually use the br for bringin everything together. i usually run the 404, my sh-201, a mic, and this old drum machine through a mixer and use an rca-1/8 to run the mixer right into the 1/8 jack in the top of the br-600.
the 600's cool cus it's so portable and the virtual tracks are nice to have (it's like there's always a take 2 of whatever track you're putting down). the efx are fun too (not as fun as the 404's, but fun none the less)

having great fun with the 404 until i came to a shuddering halt !! , got some samples going got them into a pattern played it back sounded awesome (to me) ok how do i get it off the 404 and onto my pc ? can't be done . No way to export the pattern onto my computer :( Then i thought maybe i can get it onto my Boss br 600 ! tried my card reader took the 404 card out thinking that the pattern would have been saved somewhere on the card , again no joy :( but just as i was beginning to think this was a waist of my hard earned cash ................. brainwave what if i connect my guitar cable into the headpone jack 0f the 404 and then into the guitar imput of the br 600 ! BINGO played the pattern hit record on the 600 adjusted it onto2 tracks , played it back and low and behold it worked and better still it sounded awesome :o Ibe one happy beatmaker.

^ congrats man

that's a hurdle that claims most noobs (see the spate or recent posts asking the same question!)

i think today we are so accustomed to drag-and-drop, we forget that these are audio machines and thus work via recording...the BR 600 is perfect for that though....use the track mute method (Isolator or BPM Looper) and you can track your whole beat into the Boss for tweaking of individual parts

Will have to investigate this track muting function on the 600 (still finding my beat i mean feet) must admit my heart sank when i thought that having worked out my samples into a pattern , that there was no way of exporting them . Now i can add some synth and guitar and expand my beats ! hope to have a whole song done soon fingers x

A problem with this - the headphone out is stereo, plugging a guitar cable in it is going to short out one side of the stereo. The headphone amp in the 404 will be made to survive a short circuit - but you shouldn't be doing it. If the 404 is on battery power, you'll run the battery down a bit quicker due to the short circuit.
Also, if any of your 404 samples or FX are stereo, you'll be losing half the sound.

I think you should be using the 404 line out RCA jacks to the BR's line input (a stereo mini jack?). The cable for this is easy to get.

Jim

Hey Jim mucho thanks for the advice , let me see if i have this right so all i have to do is run red/white rca jacks with the other end being a mini headphone plug connection ? into the Boss ? the last thing i want to do is risk damaging my 404 or the BOSS :(

I record from the rca outs on the 404 to a 1/8" stereo plug into my computer and I've never had an issue.

Dude, it's a recorder that's what it's designed to do. Just keep the levels from clipping and your all good.
