I just checked my mail on myspace and a company wants to book me for a 30min set in San Francisco. I don't know what to say since I don't do live performances and have never really practiced, plus I don't know how entertaining it would be to watch me play with my 303. I would have to set up something in Ableton with my Pad Kontrol but I just got the PK and don't have a full version of Ableton to save compositions. Any thoughts on what I should do? I'm a pretty shy person too, so I don't know how I'll do a live show in a club. I'm just super flattered that someone in the industry likes my music enough to ask.

congrats man

possibly :

render your existing tracks into 4 bar loops - separate bassline, melody, drums1, drums 2 etc

then load these into your 303 as 'scenes' - ie trigger your intro scene, apply the SP's effects to one or two elelemntsa, let it run through a few times...when the crowd is ready for more, drop the second scene. once again, tweak effects, tap pads in another bank as one-shots, etc, then move through to another scene

you'd probably have to switch cards a few times, maybe have an ipod with some 'ambient' interludes to stream through the mixer while you turn SP off, load card and let it reboot.

Thanks guys, I think I'll set some ish up tomorrow on the sp and time it to see if I can fill the set with something interesting. If I do it, I'll bring my macbook with some stuff for a back up/interlude situation.

I've seen that you've got microkorg on board also, so I guess you can create some "interesting" sound in it, save em, and then just hit the keys during your show.

Im not a pro in piano/keyboard playing and I recently I've figured out that when you just focus on 5 keys per octave ( CDE + GA ) you can create some not-bad sounding melodies, which of course wont be very complex, but you know, the audience in most of the clubs is not very "demanding".
And yeah, I know my "advice" with those keys will sound funny to you ( especially to those who plays piano a lot ) but I just wanted to add my 2 cents

Man, Im also mad shy when it comes to live playing. I played sax once in front of bigger audience... maaaan, I was shaking like a jelly

But I bet that if you gonna like it, and later you'll play more such shows, you get used to it and maybe find a new way to make dollars

hey euclid - do it mans. i've played live a lot and it is the number one way to tighten the bolts on everything you do. honestly, you'll learn shit that you can't even explain.

Yeah man just pull out some ras g type shit...303 blasting drums, and than just jam on the microkorg. thats dope man congrats!
