Using xd to smartmedia adapter

Post by morgan »

So in an effort to avoid paying up to $100 for one of the 5 volt memory cards, I got one of these xd to smartmedia adapters. According to the posts in the 303 forum, I have the adapter that works (at least with the 303's) but when I plug it into my 202, nothing happens, and the C/D banks won't light up.

Anyone have a similar problem before? I went and bought a new xd card, so I'm pretty sure it's not that. Any help is appreciated.

Is the XD card more than 4mb? If so, there's your problem it won't read anything over 4mb. That's all assuming the XD adapter will work with the 202 at all, dunno if it's compatible with the 5 volt cards the 202 needs.

From what I can gather, it's compatible with 5 volts. But you're right, the xd card is bigger. The smallest I could find was 1g. I doubt you can still get 4mb or under memory cards anywhere.

That sux man. Them 5v cards are goin for crazy prices on ebay. It's shit like this that discourages me from buying hardware. Hell, even the 1gb CF cards the 404 uses are gettin scarce. Damn shame. If I ever buy another sampler it's gonna have an internal hard drive.

Lol, are you saying you've put it in upside down?

If I ever buy another sampler it's gonna have an internal hard drive.

You'll have plenty of soon to be legacy gear by that time, trust me. ;)

We really need some people here that are able to mod gear big time. Like building a hard drive into a SP 606, 555 or 404 for cheap or something. You know, to get rid of the inevitable flash card issue.

Actually, I can do a prediction as far as Roland's new gear goes... it's pretty likely they will dump the whole flash card thing and use hard drives from now on. Small sized hard drives are cheap these days, I bet the new MC will have one.
