i'm gonna give the them the benifit of the doubt.
1. something needs to wake the big three up.
2. the pre-set are editable according to the site.
3. the goofy marketing could be chalked up to "well our a&r reps kinda pushed us to that point"
4. it actually does look like something i've been looking for, for quite some time ( a mix between the xr-20, e-mu mp-7, mpc, sp-series and mc-series)
my concern would be sound quality!

so the beat kang is talkin' about it on FP and it sounds great but i'm a little worried if he won't get some slander trial thrown at 'em. i mean i been askin' questions and he answers them but he is also very angry at akai (for seemingly understandable reasons) and he said stuff you would never here ol' mikey say. but in a way that makes me like him a little more. this shits got my vote and it seems more tangible than a linndrum2.
so anyway, it's got 64 voices, velocity sensing, two slots for sd cards up to 16 gigs, usb2.0
, chromatic tuning(different name), fully editable programs and patterns...
this is like the first time i saw playboy, oh damn, now i need to change my underwear

What's he saying on FP then? As for the specs go, they're not blowing me away just yet to be honest. I'd really like to know the sound quality.
I mean, as in a small vid of someone actually using the machine to make a beat.
edit: I've been reading a bit at FP and it does sound somewhat more interesting now. I still think it has to prove itself in actual use though. I mean, customizing color schemes and what not? Great, but I prefer a solid machine instead.
I also have doubts about their FX and 16-track "but you can do pad mutes" philosophy. I mean, doesn't this in practice mean 16 tracks + 16 pads on top? How does that work when it doesn't take up a track to begin with? I'm very SP and MV minded here perhaps, but I'm very skeptical still.
By the way, their booth at NAMM is #2764, indeed close to Roland. So, the product is real.

I'm sayin though, that name has to change for any type of real consideration as a proffesional piece. I also agree with the ASR refrences, I first wet my beak with a 202 back in the day, and then I got an ASR. But with that said the specs look amazing, and it's a dope looking piece. If this is not just a wish list hoax, then it has potential to be somthing great for a hand on unit. But I guess time will tell. Interesting though, very interesting, but please change that wack ass name!!! Beat Thang....c'mon man. Anyways, Peace

It's a bad name for sure, but it's not a hoax unless they're willing to pay money for a booth for nothing.

I'm real surprised that we havent seen more of this. For the last 10 years plus we havent really seen a whole lot of sampling models. for the most part it's been Akai, Roland and a few Korgs and of course greats like the Emu sp's and Ensoniqs which are no longer made. But for something that has become so popular one would expect alot more brands and models to pick from. I mean shit, I look in my music catalogs and i see more than 100 guitars to choose from but in the sampler section i see MPC's 500-5000 and an sp404.
