just got the 404 out of storage after a long move, and i wanted to throw a fresh batch of sounds on it, but it's coming up UnS (unusable) no matter what i try! whats the trick?!

im using a SanDisk ultra II 1GB card. they are all .wav and a couple .aif files. the manual is of little help... anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks,

alexander

hi,

the samples have to be 16 bit 44100 wav.

and if you ran the waves thru media player, they wont work.

you might want to test 1 sound to make sure everything works .

it only happens when i do batches of 100 + samples. then i gotta go thru them or do a batch convert which is way quicker.

is there a way to make samples 16 bit and whatever or do you have to find samples already in that format?

any audio editor like (audacity, goldwave, audition, soundforge) will let u import the original file n then export it in a different quality

I got a new SanDisk Ultra II 1g card that's giving me trouble... at least I think it's the card... I've had the following problems occur at random while trying to sample to the card from the on-board mic...

1. 404 won't power up when card is inserted

2. 404 says FUL when I've only got like two 3sec samples on the card

3. Strange clipping / slicing thing happens to sample at random... when in stereo, it only seems to be in the left channel... but the sound goes in and out... doesn't always happen, but won't go away after it does

4. Samples will disappear...

I ordered another SanDisk Ultra II 512mb card, and hopefully that will work... I got the 404 new, as a present, just this Christmas, and I've just noticed that it's hard to find a CF card at less than 2g.

I can't find any of the Roland approved cards, except for the SanDisk Ultra II, and I can only find those online (looked at Best Buy, Guitar Center, Office Max, Office Depot, Target, Radio Shack... nothing) and the ones I found are slightly different than what's approved, like SDCEH-1024-904 or SDCFH-512-901, instead of SDCFH-***-903

Another thing that's kind of curious though... I checked the Version Number to see if I needed an update, and it reads 1.05... 1.04 is the latest available for download at the site though...

I'd like to hear if anyone else has experienced the same problems or if anyone has any advice or if there is a tried and true card I should search for...

thanks

^ that doesn't sound good at all

i have the Sandisk Ultra II 1 gig and it works perfectly, perhaps you have a dodgy one, or perhaps there is something else wrong...?

ebay is good for smaller cards, often they are new...stay away from 'no-name' brands though, i've had problems with el cheapo cards

good luck man

i really hope it's just the card... i don't run into any problems when working with the internal memory... (fingers crossed)
