This thing needs folder support!

Ok, so you got a gig card, but you can only save 96 samples to it. If they're long samples, then your all good.. especially of your a DJ and you have a buncha songs assigned to pads, but I'd love to have all my drum sounds in different folders and be able to access them all. I guess for now I'll just buy some smaller 32 meg cards and fill them up, or my next workaround would be to have like 10 drum sounds per pad.. instead of 96 sounds, you'd have 960.. instant access. Anyone else got any other suggestions? I'm trying to get the most of this 404 so I can eliminate excess gear.

use the backup 10 * 24 samples you can save and load from your memory card into the internal memory

Roxstar, yea I'm aware of that problem mahn. Imma do like you and get some smaller flash cards and prolly organize my samples via a computer.

Ahh, now that's a good idea!! Never thought about that. I'd assume that you could easily get 100 samples onto a 32 meg card, but once you put the samples on the card, how does the 404 know how to assign them? I'm thinking I could transfer my drums from my other sampler to my computer (all vinyl drums I collected through the years) and I could load a bank up (one the computer)on one card while I'm auditioning another (on the 404). This way, you would only need 2 cards. Currently, I have a yamaha A4000 that I have all my drums on. I have to load a bank up each time, get what I need, and then load another bank. This takes too much time, not to mention, I have to use up outlets to power em up, a midi keyboard that needs power, midi cables blah, blah, blah.. I could do all this on the 404.

I think no matter which size of card you use you can still store upto 120 samples, but then the length of the samples will be shorter if you get smaller flash cards.

YEA! Then ya can put your top drum samples into the internal memory and all your loops, chops, stabs and basses could be on your flash cards...Ahhhhhhhhh...Epiphany!!lol

I basically will squeeze all the sounds of one or two beats on the internal memory of the sp-404 and save the whole thing as a backup once all my different patterns and sounds are the way I like 'em. I keep one backup area free for copying patterns and samples.

but if one sample contains (example) 10 different drum sounds, then in reality, you can store 1200 different sounds within the 404. As small as a snare or hi-hat is, I think you "may" be able to squeeze that on a 32mb card. I may be wrong, but a gig is definately too excessive for something like that. If I used a gig card, I would probably put a complete keyboard bank of sounds on one sample.. like 61 or 88 sounds. That's kinda excessive, but if you have like 5-10 sounds per sample, you could always just mark the one that you want, or since I use the MPC, I could just sample the whole thing, and chop what I want to keep out of it. It would be nice if you could scroll through a sample with the start/end knobs on the 404.. this way you could isolate the sound you needed much easier. Go from one sound to another just by turning the start knob. I just tried it using the mark button and sampled in 5 quick hit.. real easy to grab the sound that you need. I think that way will work out better. Not quite 1200 sounds, but 600 ain't bad either!

yea nice idea with multiple samples per pad . i'm thinkin of getting an mpc 1000 or 2500 so yea that could work better.

maybe create kits per pad if you wanna do the multiple thing? i rather use breakbeats so i put a breakbeat under every pad.

The breakbeat idea is cool to! yea... I like that one also! This way, even if you sample a kick, or whatever, it may not be the same one you snatched last time..

I'm out the loop here...what do people mean by breakbeats? Is it the same as a drum loop and then resampling individual drum sounds as and when?

yeah i mean drumloops that are exposed in the breakdown of a song.

This seems to answer the question I asked elsewhere in this forum...

It seems that I can only "backup" to the internal memory (banks A + B), and the sample banks on the card (C thru J) stay the same.

Is this the case?
