how do you make a sample cut itself?

how do you make a sample cut itself like say the sample is long and i hit it while its in the middle of playing out a part of the sample. how do u make it start over with out the sample playin over top of each other... im pretty sure it should be a way to do this... kinda like fruity loops its called cut itself....
