I've never used a sampler before & am trying to figure out how to use one. I've read the manual & still haven't been able to make any sounds.
I have it plugged into the wall outlet and am just trying to record my voice and can't even do that. Does it have to be plugged into a computer or a stereo to do this?
Will someone please give me step-by-step instructions on how to at least make a voice sample to fool around with? Do I need any extra special cables to do that?
I'm not mentally challenged, but I am over 50 and thought it would be cool to learn something new!
I've never felt so stupid. How do you use this thing?

if yr recording something thru the 'internal mic' (little thing on the right side of the box), you hit [rec], you select a pad to record to, you hit [ext source] and that little button that (i think) says mic...
that will give yr mic the external sound input.
then you hit [rec] again and it will be recording. i think to stop it you hit cancel. hit the pad in question, yr sound should be there.
to record from anyfing else (you know, a cd or whatever) use a cable from the sound out of yr cd player, into the "input" jacks on the top of the 404. you should be able to hit 'ext source' and hear these cd sounds playing thru.
hit [rec], select a pad, hit [rec] again, you're recording.
the issue may be that you are only using the internal banks, and if you got this new, they may be entirely filled. simply delete something from one of the pads to record something new.

yea it sounds like you dont have it hooked up to any moniters (speakers). (it doesnt have any of its own.) the red and white outputs in the back are RCA jacks. you need RCA cables and amplified speakers, or an amplifier, or a boombox or something that accepts RCA. (the red and white audio plugs) You could also hook headphones up in the headphone jack. but if you go buy headphones make sure the plug is 1/4", or make sure and buy a 1/4" adapter. hope this hepls.
p.s. i think thats cool that your over 50 playin with a sampler. doesnt seem like to many people in that age bracket would be interested in samplers.
