Sorry to burst your bubble PHeMoX, but the chicken and the egg conundrum springs up when it comes to firmware upgrades with the sp-404.
Even if Roland released an upgrade to allow higher capacity cards, a compatible card would be required in order to install the firmware upgrade in the first place. It would really nice to see all newly produced SP-404s come with a firmware upgrade.
As Meteorologist wrote the good news is they are available, maybe not just as immediate as people would like. I won this ebay auction ( http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0343977878 ) about 10 days ago and should be here within a business week.
I would go as far as to say that any one ordering an SP-404, should go ahead and do themselves a favor and order a compatible card at the same time so they are not limited to the default samples included on the unit while they try to find a functioning card.

I totally agree with you Plexx. You can get a USB card reader for like $15... then whenever you fill up a card, back it up on your computer and reformat. You can always restore the backed up cards. I got 2 cards per machine... and would actually be fine with just one.plexxsounds wrote:I'm always speaking up for the computer with a card-reader system so I'll do it once more. I own only 1 card but I have many copies of the card on my computer renamed like ROLAND_August or so. When I wan't to use the card I created in August I just copy that folder to the CF and just remove the "_August" part from the filename. Fast and easy.
Also you can make like 10 copies of a pattern very quickly.

Yup, you're right, if it's technically impossible, then it's just nothing Roland can help. It's not like 4Gb is going to last any longer being the minimum amount of space, I bet Roland would have to upgrade to 128gb CF cards eventually, lol.
What I am wondering though, why not get rid of the limit altogether?
