elhau,
there's some more intermediate features which you'll probably be keen to get stuck into

quick tip - if you record into a channel, say Ch 1 drums, and then decide you don't want to keep it...go to Menu, Job, Undo (it asks, Undo Overdub?)
a mistake i used to make was thinking the Cler (clear) button erased the track, but it only removes it (if you record again the previous notes will return)
so - Menu, Job, Undo will clear the track for you to record again

Swing:
after you record a pattern go to Menu, Job, Quantize
then change Swing from 50% (straight) to 75% (full swing) and hit Enter
you can Undo the quantize if it sounds bad
example, you could record hi-hats into Track 1 and then quantize them with full swing. go back into Track 1 for another overdub and lay out your kick and snare...they will be on the same track but unquantized...can be good to only 'swing' some parts of the drums

another option for swing:

Play FX:
go to menu, Play FX
you are now in another 'mixer'-style screen
i recommend turning Timing and Velocity knobs to 100% so you can hear the full effect of the Play Effect
hit Play and listen to your beat
then scroll through the various Play FX to hear the effect they have on your beat
you can set it to a simple 32/16/8/6/4 quantize (remember, this doesn't change the MIDI note info, it is like a filter you can turn off)
some good Play FX settings are Drunk (adds a wonkiness to the beat)
Shffln (various levels of shuffle), Accent Up/Down, and Swing
depending on the number in front of the name, it will apply the effect to that size of note (quarter, sixteenth etc)
now i said that the Play FX don't change your Midi note info like doing a quantize does
but you CAN choose to 'apply' the Play FX, in which case it WILL permanently (with an Undo) change the MIDI note event info, then you turn off the Play FX

hope that made sense :)

Kris, if you're around feel free to chip in with advice, ideas too

hey gotta say its fun that my old thread came back to life!

This days i'm bit by the laptop bug. I love my white macbook and ableton live. But that doesn't mean i am gonna sell my qy70. Oh no! It is a really really great machine. I find it inspiring me in other ways then other instruments. This is the way i can make melodys with midisounds on my laptop:

1. With the keyboard onboard the mac.
2. With i midikeyboard
3. With my electric guitar with a installed midi pickup
4. Using the qy70s keyboardpads to trigger notes on the mac
5. Makeing things on the qy then midisyncing it to the mac to transfer the midiarrangement to the mac.

The wery cool thing is that my 5 possibillitis(what a word) ends up sounding nothing like each other! And that is really really cool. One of my favorit things to do with the QY70 is making some cool patterns in pattern-mode. Then setting up 1 midi track for all my instruments on the QY. Midisyncing it and transfering my patterns to work with it more on my laptop.

Another cool thing i rememberd doing was that i used the sounds from the qy. Made a beat, but didn't think the sounds were raw enough. So i ran each track into the vinylsim. and so on on the sp-404 and my beats were bangin like shit!

I have even gigged with it to times bore i got my laptop. I had some synths playing there. Then i played guitar and synth on top. PLus i had a bassplayer and a drummer with me. The drummer had a metronome in his ear an we tried to press play on the qy in time with his click. I have a video of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWnWPmIVi5s&feature=channel_page

The thing im saying at the start is that the song is about sitting in your bed on sunday morning with all you toypets and playing gameboy.

Hi i'm new to this forum and i've owned a QY70 for 9 years but only ever used it as a keyboard with a mixer and pedal chain, i've just bought a Doepfer Dark Energy modular synth http://www.doepfer.de/Dark_Energy_e.htm and am trying to use the QY as a midi controller. I'll be honest i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing, i know how people with dyslexia feel, the main thing i want to do is adjust the attack, release, decay etc in the QY-70, any quick, straight to the point tips would be great. I know it's funny that i've latched onto pretty old thread buy you all seem to know what your're talking about......take petty on the poor fool

I just picked up a qy100 last weekend. I haven't really sat down and messed with it yet, but once I do I will give some impressions of the machine. I might also do a tutorial for using it with SP/Samplers since there are no tutorials on youtube.

does the pitch shifting & time stretch only apply to onboard sounds or does it effect midi too? &
what's the quality of the time stretch/pitch on qy's?

pardon me if those are stupid questions haha
