yo im bout to snag my first mixer for my TT (only one tho) to do some lite scratchin. only thing is i have no idea what to look for any help? im looking to speand anywhere from 100 to 250 to start.

If you wanna seriously get into scratching check the Numark DXM01... but yo I def would recommend to try some other mixers, too.

It's pretty much like buying a car but that numark is def upper class for 240$.

I use an old gemini umx 5. VCA faders, no gimmicks but works fine for me. I had a HAK 360 (pro mixer) some days ago but I didn't felt that magnetic fader shit. Too soft for me.... :lol:

Never had to replace a fader (during the last 6 years now...) !

It's the skills not the mixers. Took me some years to get convinced but yeah just practise homie and don't give up. The first 2 years may sound like shit but it's not that difficult like violin or sth... Have fun.

I got that same mixer, its decent but I have bought damn three faders for it at $75.00 a pop. If you can save up for a raine or vestax, the numarks are good for the price though. Make sure you get one where you can adjust the slope to where it cuts the music on right when move the fader.

Crossfader Curve!!! Hell yeah... I modded my mixer/crossfader with a telephone card, now I got the feel and response I like... and the clicks aren't that loud anymore... it's like a silencer or sth...

ive always heard good things about em so maybe thats the route.

i was lookin at numark as well, they have a new model for 100 but i thought even as a newbie that may come to haunt me if it breaks more than functions.

are there any good vids out there that descibe techniques?

I can cosign on the numark mixers. I've had a DXM06 for the past 5 yrs and haven't had any problems with it.

I think it's one step up from the 01. The addition of effects and the freq kill buttons is nice... and it comes in right at $250. I'd say that you wanna get something mid range so you don't end up having to get a new one if you decide to get into mixing records.

Having the added effects and what not is also nice for adding a lil somethin' somethin' on the way into your SP.

For a scratch mixer the less knobs the better, just less shit to get in your way. But it depends on what type of music and mixing you do. For just scratching and beat juggling a two channel is perfect. Try and get some roc raida vids he is like the jesus of scratching and juggling, youtube is also a great spot.

Vestax mixers are overrated imao... I'm scratching for more than 7 years now. I'm still no pro but I tried a lots of mixers (from vestax to rane ...) and that's exactly what you should do. The feel of the fader is most important and the VMC series don't got the classic PCV-Vestax faders so try before you buy. Again: it's not the mixer it's the skills. Don't think vestax mixers scratch on their own... hell no... Scratching takes time... For workshop stuff I can recommend the Q-Bert "Do it yourself" clips:

The Gemini UMX series were cool - I had umx-3 as my first mixer. No EQ at all but the faders were nice. The UMX-5 is the same with EQ's I think.

I have a Vestax PMC 05 pro SL mixer that has the sampler / looper / delay function - a bit like the loop capture on the 555. Overall I think Vestax is just average but this model is nice for making layered loops etc.

Wax, it would be cool to hear some scratching from ya - and any other forum members as well. I've been scratching for many years myself but I don't master much of those technical scratches - I just jam for fun (and also do some live acts)

Maybe some kinda "post your turntable tracks" topic should be done. At the moment my tonearm's a bit fucked up but...

lets hear them skills then?????? I am trying to save dude money and not waste it like I did buying mediocore mixers. The same with buying any mediocore music gear you get what you pay for. You are not going to learn on a shittier mixer any easier.

It's got the perfect x-fader.

But I'd save my money to get a Vestax PMC-05.

As for a needle, get a Shure M44-7. Nothing beats that...

ive only got 1 right now, a stanton t62. the one b4 that was a cheap as sony i got from best buy when worked there
