Im surprised nobody in here mentioned Shape of Broad Minds new album. The whole album is great with guest appearances by MF Doom and Count Bass D. I also just found out the other day that Jniero Jarel uses a 303 on his beats all this time I just assumed he was on that whole MPC kick hahaha

I liked Raw Cartoons by FlyLo. But that's just in the sub-genre of hip-hop

Yeah, I agree, RZA's latest really isn't the greatest.

Hmmm... gotta co-sign a couple that have already been mentioned.

Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping
dope album. Saw these cats at the Hollywood Palladium and they tore it down... they finished with a cover of "smells like teen spirit" that had the whole crowd going nuts.

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular
such a cool vibe to it...

On the hip hop tip...

Kool Keith - Dr. Dooom2
Opio - Vulture's Wisdom
Nas - Untitled
Black Milk - Tronic
Pete Rock - NY's Finest
Heltah Skeltah - D.I.R.T.
Buckshot & 9th Wonder - The FormulaDel - 11th Hour
Declaime - Astormsacomin'

i guarantee I'm going to get sh*t on for this, but... I THINK MF DOOM is possibly one of the most annoying emcees ever.

He should stop rapping and stick to producing, cause on that tip he is a genius.

His voice and his rhyme content are complete garbage. His rhyme schemes however are pretty decent. Just my 2 cents.

I was always really suprised why anyone ever liked his flow at all... ugh..

Daaaaaaaaaaammmmmmnnnnnn!

Did you really just say... I mean type that?

I love Dooms abstract and somewhat non-sensical meandering use of metaphors... I think he laces up them rhymes real tight. But to each his own.

Since we're talking about over-rated cats, I'm gonna say that 9th Wonder is prolly the most over-rated producer in the game. Anyone smell me on that?

i love Doom's non-sequitor style, there's a lot of really dope wordplay and random references there

this is probably gonna be viewed as blasphemy, but i've never really dug Madlib's beats that much. some are nice, but his style really doesn't appeal to me

i agree with Count re: 9th Wonder too, mad overrated

you're not the first person to tell me that...

his emceeing isnt music to me.. however his beats are off the scale nice. I just don't like his babbling, in all honesty it ruins the beautiful beat to me. Much like Sage Francis. Dope poet, sh*tty emcee.

mf doom has some pretty dope multisyllabic rhymes too, but he just sounds like his mouth is full of meatballs to me.

to be great in my eyes, you need the whole package, breath control, rhyme structure, dope content, a decent voice, and stage presence (in live cases). His slurring (swing) style (although at times catchy), his lack of content (dont get me wrong I've heard some dope metaphores and simili's) and his incredibly wack-walk around stage like a troll with a mask on live shows... I guess sums it up. But lets not get it twisted and/or turn this into a hate fest of mf doom. He's in my top 5 favorite producers of all time.. I just think that he needs to stick to producing.

sorry to hijack this thread. Carry on. And no disrespect to any fans 8)

ha ha... yeah, his stage presence is lack-luster. I saw him in SF at the Independent and he played half his tracks from a CDJ that he controlled himself. Even given that fact... it was still a dope show.

Anyone else listened to Declaime's - Astormsacomin? It's got some real dope & unique production on it.

damn, i've actually come to really enjoy madlib as an emcee, its real laid back, always on some ill shit, you just can't take it seriously, i can understand your reasons for not liking his lyrical "skills" though, they really shine through when you put on somethin around some people that aren't to into hiphop or are real into your standard radio rap and don't venture outside that region at all, all of a sudden you just get this feelin like you need to change every song that comes on, i hate that though, cause other times i'll bump it and be wildin out drivin down the road, throwin my hands and singin lyrics and shit, i just think that he is such a breath of fresh air to me, i guess i don't know what it is about him, i just really enjoy his emceeing, and production obviously

EDIT
shit, i'm realizing this didn't make too much sense, i thought somebody above was talkin about lib's lyrical skill, but they were still on MF....my opinion still stands though!!! and i think its kinda funny, whoever said they weren't to into MF rappin but thought his beat game was great, i've heard the opposite so many times, people rippin on him for just loopin straight samples, which he totally does (not that i don't love the herbs, i listen to those on shuffle constantly), but the more i've been usin my machine and really gettin into listening to my sounds and learning about mixing and stuff, doom really gets his shit soundin tight, the way the bass line from the sample bumps is really nice and distinct in most of his joints, and the loops are always pretty on point, plus dude does just have a good taste in sample choice.....
