'FULL' ... when it's definately not.

My SP404 has recently been saying 'FUL' when trying to import samples from a flash card, although i've gone through and deleted about 20 samples from the 404 (some 3min long in stereo) it still says 'FUL'.

Samples i'm trying to import are very short.

Any ideas?

your samples are 44khz 16bit wav files?

16bit 44khz aiff files (same as i always use). If it was the wrong file type it would give me the 'UnS' message, but i'm getting 'FuL'...

Format the card in the machine and then initialize the internal memory by holding delete, cancel, rec and turning your 404 on. Now try and load up some samples and see if that worked.

Here's a thought; if you have all your samples that you want to import on your card then it could be that there is not enough space left for your sp-404 to write the imported sounds it imports into the banks c and up, this would explain the FUL message..

you guys are gonna kill me but no matter how many times i read the manual or the search engine here, i don't understand the 404's storage system. if someone can break this down to me i would be very grateful.

i'm using a 32mb card and all my files are 16bit wavs
i've truncated all my samples, no extra air. there's no way i have 32mb filled up, maybe 10 mb at most.

i don't think i've ever done a backup before, but my mpc tells me there are some backup files on the card. i understand that doing a backup only involves the internal memory (banks a+b)? when i'm on bank a or b and press remain, it says i have like 3 minutes left. but on my memory card i only have a few seconds. i took all my sounds and changed their places until they were lined up across the pads of two banks.
i pressed cance;+resample and chose all of the files one by one. but after the third one it said 'full'. have i got extra sounds on the card that i just don't know of, that may be part of the backup somewhere? i'm afraid to do a backup cuz i'm pretty unlucky when it comes to wiping out important data. just wish i could understand this concept!

Think about it like this;

if you wanna put a gig of mp3's on an empty cd-r, it won't work.

it's not that it's full but that there isn't quite enough room. the roland samplers all have a special music file stuck in that ROLAND folder (on the 404's cf card, you know what i mean) which takes some memory and then there is the file you are trying to import, which takes some memory. so if you're using 22mb but what you want to import is equal to 11mb then a 32mb card won't work. does that make sense?

one more thing the back up files are for a+b but they are stored on the cf card.

sorry but another thing;

think of the roland music files like mp3s-they use less data

however wav or aif files take a lot of space.

roland folder ??mb
wav file 10 mb
new imported sounds ??mb

if the ??+??=23 mb then you're outta luck.

thanks jbl. i still am a little confused but it turns out there were a bunch of resamples that were really long that i didn't know were there (funny, i didn't hear them on the sp). i had to delete them with a computer, and now it says i have over 4 minutes remaining. guess it means mono(?)

Ive been thru that numerous times.. if ur from europe never ever name your samples using A's and O's with spots.. SP cant handle those letters
