I am trying to find some insight on where to start. I kinda just browsed through the online manual, but haven't really found anything kinda easy and useful.

I am assuming there aren't alot of drum sounds built into the SP-606? Also another question. Since I bought this item used it did not come with P606, the cakewalk software, but I have read in a few spots no one really likes it. The programs I have are reason 4.0 and garage band.

So...any insight would be great. I really like the sounds on the Korg Drum Machines, and I just wasn't happy with the drum sounds from reason.

I basically just want to make drum loops and such on this.

I assuming I would need to load all the .WAVs on a CF card as well? Or my other thought was, ...I don't know. Thanks and hope this gets some good replies

i don't have the 606 so i can't help you w/ that, but if you go to "the library" section of this site, you'll find all sorts of drum / stabs / bass / pad sounds upload by the spforum users, free for you to use.

just say thanks when you download 'em.

Yeah, I don't have a 606 either. I would recommend loading or sampling some drum sounds to the pads and then sequence them and then practice chopping samples to like a single piano note's or whatever and place them on the drum sounds in the sequencer. Don't worry if you can't get stuff to loop perfect at first, it just takes practice.

Would it be possible to make the drum loops on a Drum Machine and then Sample then to a pad?

Most definitely. And to answer your first question, the 606 comes pre-loaded with 4 padbanks. 3 are drum sounds and 1 is a bass padbank. The sounds are super standard though, so i never use them. I just sample my own drums.

So is there anyway to sample drum sounds from a Drum Machine or Computer W/O the CF card?

Also when sampling from a program like reason, could I used my 1/8 to left and right 1/4inch cable..like from the headphone jack from my computer..

Also anyone notice that using the SP-606 the volume of the thing is so low when you plug in headphones? I have to put mine full volume to actually hear it. Same when I plug it into my PA mixer

sure ! there's 16 mb of internal memory--so you don't need CF card (the only issue i remember someone d said that the CF card must be iserted in SP anyway--though i might be wrong)
to sample from the drummachine you need to use EXT SAMPLE button thus getting exact patterns into SP/
By using MIDI iinterface i guess you can also sample patterns from REASON though i've never tried it coz i don't have external midi interface for my pc

About the volume thing you said:
1. Maybe the cables you are using are really in bad condition!
2. maybe you need a cf card for reloading the newest version of the sp606 os(it will also give you much more sampling time).in my 606 i turn the volume up to "2clock"
3. maybe you listen music very loud all the time!

Yea I can't seem to find a way to get the output volume higher!!!! It's driving me crazy cause I have to pull my volume on the mixer I have it plugged into to max and it hums when I am not playing

Also I had another question. I was watching a video on YouTube where this guy Drag and Dropped samples from the desktop onto the SP606. How to you do that?? He said mac or pc via USB

Did you get the manual?

You connect the 606 to your computer via USB, it appears as an external drive and you drag and drop your samples into it.

Do you have the FX and D-beam both shut off?
What samples do you have in the machine?
Do you have the pads set for a low fixed velocity?

The SP-606 can transfer audio digitally over USB, so all you need is a USB cable. Set the 606 to be MIDI clock master, slave Reason to MIDI clock and you can sample stuff straight out of Reason.

Do you have the manual?

Yea I have the manual. I have gone through it, I just am not used to all this midi this and that.

My D-Beam and Synths are off,...I have new cables. I bought this used so there was no CF card, I was told/read somewhere to get the 606 on the desktop you need a CF card inserted.... Then go to menu, USB mass storage.

Right now I am just sampling from my headphone jack from my computer.

The samples I had were all the protected ones, but I got rid of all of those. Those were super low as well.

I have the 606 connected by USB, but it doesn't come up

I don't get it...why do all that to sample out of Reason when all you have to do is sample with the 606 like you would sample from youtube or myspace?
