I've upgraded to EX on stock SP-808 with 100 zip

Post by jpx2 »

Hi folks,

I'm an 808 user from way back...bought my first in July 1999 and second in spring of 2001. I successfully upgraded both of my 808s to EX using the secret OS dump method. I'm sure it is online somewhere - but there is a key combination that you can use on an 808 EX that will dump the OS that is on the machine to the zip drive. Then you take the zip disk and put it into your 808 and it will upgrade it. It was a godsend at the time...as soon as I found that hack online, I went to Long and McQuade, brought a Zip disk to "test the machine" and walked out with the 808 EX OS...I used my 808s with the EX OS with regular 100 mb zip drives for years and had no problems.

I'm looking at getting back playing live and love my 808s...I'm here to find info on 750 zip upgrades...noticed there's a seller on Ebay with a ton of them for only $20 USD...just bought three...
