Smart Cards

Post by hippiesmell »

I just bought a sp 303 off of ebay and it came with out a card. They no longer make 64mg Smart Cards...will 128 mb cards work? Also, where would you recommend getting cards?

Thanks.

www.rolandus.com/uploads/ CMS/Downloads/110/SamplerCompGuide.pdf

interesting i found this and it says it can handle up to 128 mb on the comparrison guide. i also read on another site that roland was messing around w/the 128 card on the 303 but they don't recommend it yet. all, i know is i wish the 64 mb was readily available.

I actually just bought a 64 card off of ebay...the idiot at the electronics store on 14th st. near 5th ave. across from guitar center in manhattan sold me the wrong one...it's not a smart card, and because i don't know what they look like so i fell for it. the place is a total scam house, and if there are any new yorkers here i'd avoid the joint. the guy told me some bald face lies to get my $$$ and then getting an exchange was a nightmare.

Karma.

nyc trickery

Post by yo-yo crunch »

yeah i think i know that place you're talking about. a lot of shop clerks in nyc don't really listen to you or know what they're talking about. i've had that experience at j&r and numerous other places (even the great ones like turntable lab). i don't mess w/ cards though--don't see the point if you have a laptop...

I'll say this BH photo, and Adorama are pretty good. I find they're pretty straight forward and knowledgeable. Otherwise you gotta go for some big corporate place ,,,,at least they'll give you a cash refund no questions asked.

sp-303, --64mb smart card----

Post by vesuvan »

I just bought a sp-303 off eBay for 185 buy it now, it is being sent without a 64mb smart media card--- I have found a handful of these on eBay, however there are several different brands and the cards look a tad bit different - each are 64mb smart media cards, however.

Does anyone know the specific kind of card/name that the sp-303 uses? I dont want to make the mistake of buying the wrong one -

Also, will the card have to be formatted to the sp-303?

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who can help me out.
I appreciate it.

You need a 64mb Smart Card ...very important that it is a smart card. And you need it to be 3.3v transfer.

Here's a link to one that will work.

http://cgi.ebay.com/64MB-SMARTMEDIA-MEM ... dZViewItem

Make sure you know what it is you are shopping for. As you'll see above I got ripped off because I didn't know what I was looking for. Even though I asked for a 64 mb smart card, the guy handed me a 128mb Flash card and told me this is exactly what I want. He told me he had the same sampler and that was the type of card he used. When I questioned him on the 128 mb, he told me 'the thing will work and if not he'll refund my money'. Well next day they refused to refund the money. You want to support these 'mom and pop' shops, but sadly they are desperate for money so they'll stoop as low as they can go to get your cash.

I have been following the manual thus far, and have just tried to make my first sample after deleting all of the samples that came on the 303 from the factory,, but nothing plays back after i finish recording it?

I assign bank A, hit 'REC', all the 1-8 pads flash and I press pad 1 , all the others turn off and Pad 1 stays light while 'REC' blinks- i screwed with the drive level and the peak light never came on, I am assuming the mic level is very low- but i have recorded plenty through garageband with the same mic and it comes out great- i dont have a mixer with the 303 but this shouldnt prevent me from being able to sample anything should it?

If anyone knows what I am doing wrong I would really appreciate any help. I have been fiddling around now for 4 hours trying to get SOMETHING to come up, but its just a fuzzy silence, help!

cheers
