how do you plug your sp 404 to an amp?

any radio shack, best buy, guitar center. most electronic or music stores sell them, or they sell adaptors as well.

The metal jacket RCA plugs look different, but they fit.
Don't get moulded RCA (like in basic hi-fi connects), despite they're the cheapest, if you travel a lot, they won't last long, although they would be ok at home if you don't tug at them.
