Mastering...?

whats up all...new to the 404...just got mine a couple of days ago..
i see that their is no velocity control...so my question is how do you guys go about mixing down your stuff...do you just route it to a computer program and have them separted to different tracks...like hats on one, kicks on two, snare on three...etc?

i'm not that sophisticated but you could do that easily from patterns - say a pattern of 6 voices/pads - track it out each time and mute a different sample or range of samples so they end up in diff tracks on yr recording software.

I tend to try and "mix" onboard and run it out as one track into audacity or soundforge for some light compression and maybe reverb and eq.

but I can't mix or eq for crap - i think you will find folks doing one or the other here. some have put out whole albums tracking out as one track.

just use the isolator or the sub sonic effect to mute your samples, so you can track out every single sound...

You can. But I find the 404 to have enough of the essentials in itself (reverb,delay,eq,compression[from the vinyl sim]) to do all of that within the machine itself. I always just record the stereo out into my DAW and just apply compression and EQ to the 2 track.

doing this doesn't eliminate the entire sound though does it? It's kind of like eq'n out the frequencies right?

No the sound won't get "touched". It's like real muting...

Just try to set all 3 control knobs to the max. left when you wanna mute with the isolator; to the right while muting with the sub.

I prefer the sub thang...

The isolator is also good for raising the volume of a sound. Just all knobs to the right and bang...
